The rules of cricket aren't complicated though. It is a very easy sport to explain to a child (except the outside leg LBW rule). Maybe the intricacies and tactics are hard to explain (of the long form) but not the rules.

Where as 'yoof friendly' sports like skateboarding, halfpipe etc. Full of jargon and **** too quick for the eye to pick up unless you are prepared to put in the time to learn it because you find it interesting.

The problem for cricket has been that a large % of the population have(had) thought it is either/or:
- boring (too long, whites)
- un-cool (whites, funny jargon)
- maybe un-relatable (e.g. counties/ districts rather than cities and clubs, and in UK scene engaging ethnic minorities)

Therefore those not engaged are not prepared to learn the jargon and intricacies. No different to me not understanding the 'contact' part of basketball, I don't care enough to learn it. But if I do watch b-ball it's not a deal breaker for my interest.

The Hundred will probably address those issues. but so would any T20 tournament (if it included cities, that is an area where cricket has fallen behind in England, county identity is no longer a big deal for a big % of population).

Has any body worked out what is a " Good score" for The Hundred, both Men's & Women's. Is 150 for Men, 125 for Women, Par.
It seems the major complaint in the reports that I have read is that the pitches are not very batter friendly, to slow, spin dragging the score down, and plenty of very poor fielding, particularly in the Women's games.

I've enjoyed the action, but I am bothered by the move away from overs. Overs aren't hard to comprehend - six deliveries in succession by the same bowler. It can be explained with fewer than 10 words. I suppose the word 'set' gives a better description than 'over'.

I think this whole thing is predicated on the weird human preference for certain numbers (100, 10, 5).

I think it’s a lot easier to mentally comprehend a scoring rate of “x runs per over” than it is to comprehend “x runs per ball” or “x runs off y balls”. And does a lot better job of tracking what’s actually going on.

Whatever it takes!!!
Also coz an over gives you a certain fixed time to get something done. They should have just called them overs of 5 balls each. But I assume part of the time shortening thing was to ensure you didn't change ends after every over.

Pretty incredible this Benjamin has come from absolutely no-where and looks as good as he does. Hits the ball really cleanly, good allround the ground, and seems to have good plans vs the bowlers. Mystery why he wasn't picked up earlier.

It's funny watching Morgan struggle yesterday and through the tournament, comparing him to Benjamin and you'd think Benjamin was the international. In fairness to Morgan he tends to leave his best cricket for international stuff, and Lords is crap for strokeplay.

Just looking at the scorecard, how was Dane van Niekerk not player of the match for the womens game today jeepers thats rough :confused1 :confused1

Not good unless van Niekerk diverted player of the match on purpose.

Yep.

On a unrelated subject, it seems the commentators are being made to stand for entire matches. Isn't this a violation of UN laws on torture?
