Apparently this is the sixth test out of 21 as head coach that Silverwood hasn't selected a specialist spinner. Given that six of the others were in SL and India, that's 40% of the tests when it was, at best debateable.Bit of a surprise from both teams then. I think every match preview I saw had Ashwin and Leach down to play.
I can see the logic. Nathan Lyon averaged 55 with the ball vs India during the BG series in Oz, and NZ's all seam attacks have been too good for India in England and NZ.Apparently this is the sixth test out of 21 as head coach that Silverwood hasn't selected a specialist spinner. And I must point out grecian's admirable self-restraint during the hour and a half since the team was announced.
And Root bowling decent spin has helped.I can see the logic. Nathan Lyon averaged 55 with the ball vs India during the BG series in Oz, and NZ's all seam attacks have been too good for India in England and NZ.
nopeCan anyone tell me if Siraj is still wearing his hair in that ridiculous topknot he did in Australia?
Eh, Lyon averaged 55 because he bowled harmless piss. Wouldn't be too hard for Leach to do better.I can see the logic. Nathan Lyon averaged 55 with the ball vs India during the BG series in Oz, and NZ's all seam attacks have been too good for India in England and NZ.
I reckon that India will really go after Root's bowling in this series to try and put pressure on the quicks. And Root bowling decent spin has helped.
this checks out about right for gnske's first post back after a hiatus tbhA brilliant opening contribution for women's cricket by Burns
