ffs Mithun, he didn't even try to cross strike didn't he.

Afif over Moses. BD has so much young batting talent being wasted as lower order allrounders.

Mithun's been left out of the T20 squad, thank ****.

Nurul seems vaguely competent yeah

Did they just not pick him because he kept wicket?
I suppose so, yeah.

But I mean if your query is ultimately about why he was left out while Mithun was put in, the same query would be equally valid if applied to at least a dozen, or possibly two or three dozen other Deshi batsmen who are better than him.

he's been legit for a while now. With him and LKD around it's amazing they still let Rahim keep wicket anymore. Mushy is good enough to play as a pure bat, and either of these guys can do the job. He must really really hate fielding.

Afif has been impressive as well. Moses is ridiculously gun. I don't understand why Mithun keeps getting picked.

I'm fairly confident in the future of BD batting tbh. I think we'll manage fine once Shakib/Mushy/Tamim move on. I'm more concerned about where our next quality spinner is. Right now it's only Miraz.

We'll be fine in the long run, especially with some of the gems in the last U/19s team coming through. But the first few years after those three retire will be grim I think. Especially in test cricket.

As it stands, none of those guys you mentioned have actually done anything of note and our domestic system does very little to improve players. They'll have to learn to play against top class bowlers on the job, just as Shakib/Mushfiq/Tamim/Mahmudullah did during the late 00s and early 10s while averaging about 25-30 and constantly slumping to embarrassing defeats.

It might not be quite as bad the next time, but I'm bracing myself.

Yeah, it's a big IF, hoping Mossaddek/Liton/Mominul carries on - and Moses has not gotten enough tests and Liton hasn't improved massively against the better teams to replace Shakib/Mushy/Tamim. So basically rn it's just Mominul who carries on and makes big scores (relatively).

I mean there may be more promising bats, but who has really even been part of a settled XI now for BD? It's gonna be grim unless it's sorted out soonish. I don't see them playing beyond 3 years tbh.

^And a further issue has been the failure of the "in between" generation to establish themselves at international level. If Soumya, Shabbir and the like had worked out, there'd at least be some some quality senior players to hel us keep our heads above water while the young ones develop. But unfortunately there's been no decent, proven red ball players who've come through after the 06/07 generation other than Mominul really. Liton has made some scores recently, but his numbers against quality opposition are embarrassing.

We're basically going to have another phase where a fleet of talented but very inexperienced kid have to carry the batting against quality international bowlers who'll be well placed to **** them up while they're still learning.

Yeah, this is spot on

Mahmudullah's test retirement is a good thing I think. Opens up at least one spot to develop someone.

idk I think the composure of this gen of cricketers is better than the last gen. They lack experience sure, but there is some grit there.

But yea could be a rough few international tours for them.

Mahmudullah was in any case in and out of the squad regardless, wasn't he? They've tried a bunch of players too. Tough to ask much of them though, they get few tests to boot. They have to at least stick with a few players like Shanto, Moses etc. I mean, Moses hardly plays tests anymore and ***** like Mithun keep showing up for no reason. Bizzare tstl

Sounds a bit like they're doing that but sticking with the wrong ones tbh (see also Rubel, Ebadot)

Yeah fair point re: Mahmudullah.

It's hard to find the words to summarise how subpar Ebadot is, but I hope these Mithun/Ebadot experiments are over ASAP.

With Taskin finally looking like a reasonable international bowler, Shoriful's obvious talent and Mustafiz hopefully developing with the red ball we might finally have a seam attack that can be trusted to get 3-5 wickets in a test innings, and possibly more in an ODI innings. That could have such a transformative effect on this team. It could turn routine humiliating defeats into just defeats during the rebuild, and who knows what after we're on the rise again.

Edit: Abu Jayed as well. The **** averages 32 with the red ball ffs, that's almost enough to to get him a statue outside Mirpur.
