I can't believe I ate the whole thing
What next for us in test cricket?

I guess the immediate next assignment is 2 tests in India. Hope India changes it to 3. Ross Taylor should not retire yet and should play those two test matches in India. If we can win the test series in India it would rank higher than getting to WTC finals and beating India in England surely.

Don't want to talk about the elephant in the room, the aussies :-)
I’m guessing Ross would want a home tour to farewell in. And 20 test hundreds.

But the final being this good not only makes the painful/dodgy qualifying process worth it, it also creates a buzz around the fixtures at the back end of the cycle when the points table is crystalizing.

Like imagine if in the next cycle the finalists hinge on say England beating Bangladesh away from home in a 2 test series, and they end up drawing or something.

There'll be that bit of extra hype for matches that not many normally care about.

People didn't see that and just kept complaining about how it was all unjust that NZ only plays 2 test series and England play 5 or whatever.
That's fine and I get that. But the final being good doesn't invalidate the complaints about the format being deeply flawed any less than a great ODI WC final would invalidate complaints about a poorly designed group stage or qualifying process.

I'm glad that it's broadly seen that this first go was a success, and it's quite fair to give leeway on that basis. But there's no doubt that there's a lot of improvements to be made to the basic structure of the competition if it's to get to where it needs to be long-term.

Not an excuse, but we went in with no preparation, not even a practice game.
I do think the BCCI needs to take responsibility for that, and make sure it doesn’t happen again. I am sure Ireland, for one, would have loved to have played a serious match against India prior to the WTC. The BCCI chose the venue, so I am pretty sure they had the clout to also get some extra game time in.

My comments

1 Kane not bowling cdg much after he got carted on day 1 was a simple but good decision and may be the end of cdg with other people putting up their hand
2 Kyle Jamieson swings it both ways at 138ks and is 6 foot 8, am I dreaming
3 Kanes innings in the first dig was other wordly. He seemed to be the one player in the match that recognized it was a minefield and batted with an effective counter strategy
4 rossco in the 2nd innings run chase was immense. Ashwin of the Ashwin's got this old meme was spinning a web of increasing power around us until Ross broke the shackles with his lofted shot over mid on. That shot defeated Ashton and broke his hold.
5 pants dismissal and several shots he played were diabolical. It looked like he was playing ipl out there on his dismissal. He wouid never be selected again if I were Ravi shastri. Had India dotted out 10 more overs the run chase would have been much more difficult and as a test match purist I have no idea why a country would select a player like that notwithstanding his efforts in Aussie.
6 if I were the Indian coach would have gone up one side and down the other of rahane for his bizarre first innings dismissal against the short stuff. He has always been afraid of the ball ever so slightly and needs to htfu
7 team India are genuinely nice guys and a credit to worid cricket and humankind. They, along with the blackcaps played the match as gentlemen. There were no outbursts or unkindness between the teams and genuine hand shakes at the end. Well done India. Probably lost it by selecting two spinners instead of another seam option.

Forgot to add one other comment
Some randoms on the internet said will young should be selected ahead of Ross for this match
Just no
We were always going to need experience in the final as the pressure during the 4th innings chase was palpable and so strong that Latham and Conway folded to pressure. Ross stood up and manned up and got the run chase done like the senior batsman he is

I don't want to go out on a limb here but... is this a multi? :detective
Legalistically a multi but not in spirit
When I left there wasn't a delete account option so after a discussion with James he changed the registered email address and password to random text that only he knows.
Hello Smudge BTW
Also sorry for trolling you about the TAB 12 years ago. I was in a bad space around those years personally.

Thanks

He played 2 ATG 5th day knocks in Australia to get us to a historic series win. On top of that, he scored a beyond incredible 101 in Ahmedabad taking India out of trouble from 146-6 against England in very, very difficult batting conditions which included the Jimmy Anderson reverse sweep and another 91 (88) from 4-70 in Chennai coming in during a collapse.

He did this all in his last 5-6 tests. I did not even mention a bunch of cameos he played as well in those tests such as the 40 yesterday and 58* in Chennai.

He is ranked the 6th best batsman currently after the Fab 4 and Labushagne in the iCC rankings and I think that is entirely deserved. Along with keeping, that makes one of the (if not the) most valuable cricketers in the world.

No worries. I really enjoyed your brief foray into the rugby league section of CricSim this season; I felt like we buried any hatchets we had there.

Welcome back. I'll try to get your accounts merged if you're okay with that (or at least swap the names so you don't have to be "Hurricane2").
