Outstanding work by the coaching and the management staff. They have been working their butt off for quite some time now. They need break more than the players.

Looking back how good planning that was to rest up Kyle, Southee, Kane, BJ etc from the 2nd test vs England? I know how much work these guys put in during the winter when players are cooling their feet. Our younger players will look up to this result and look to emulate the current ones. The juggernaut will continue for quite some time now. Already hearing from the next bunch of lads how much they would want something similar.

Next stop T20 WC and then the one day WC. Savor the moment, chill for a bit but then the management staff will have to get on with future planning in no time. The real architects behind the turn around.

World cups whatever format triggers off a massive motivation among the now amateur and toddler cricketers. This was super important to keep that fire burning. We owe much to this team and the management staff. At least the next 5-10 years we will continue to be a force.

Congrats NZ, well deserved.

I hope this has converted some of the doubters of the WTC. It still is and will probably always be dodgy in terms of scheduling, but it’s on the right track imo. Thoroughly enjoyed the build up and the game itself.
The first one day world cup was a 60 overs affair. The one day world cup has come along nicely since the 90s. So will the test championship. It will evolve with time. I'd like it to be once in 3 years affair rather than 2. In about 10 years time this will be one that will parallel the one day world cup.

You got to love cricket, you have 3 different formats catering to all sections of the public. Imagine a three peat from one cricketing nation... that'll be glorious.

For being sawn off by umpires like Kane was going to be last night lbw when it was clearly going down leg.
For Rossgate
For being bundled out for 45
For living with the ignominy of having the world record lowest test score of 26
For having bean counters and the ball richocheting off Ben Stokes pads for 4 taking away the 2019 world cup final
For reading 1000 cricinfo articles about how we punch above our weight
For reading a post on this forum around 2009 telling the Kiwi fans to stop hoping our team will ever win because it won't
For 50 different condescending posts from Scaly Piscine who must have been dumped by a good looking Kiwi Sheila in his youth

For all those things and many more - it all turned up gold last night. We won...and what a moment for Simon Doull to call the victory.

Want to finish by saying "Ross is Boss". That is all.

Nz now ranked number one in test and odi and 3rd in t20, such a cricket powerhouse now. Looking at some of the young guys floating around a repeat in 2 years isn't off the cards, odi world cup as well.

To be fair, I don't think any of the doubters - of which I very much include myself - had a problem with the idea that the final itself would be a great game of cricket. The problem was the qualifying process.

It really feels like a lifetime ago that I attended more than a dozen consecutive losses (both test and ODI) between 1997 and 2007. The 2015 semi-final was possibly more cathartic for me in that sense, but this is still unbelievably special after such a demoralising childhood and adolescence.

Congrats NZ for winning the inaugural test championship!

Me not too bothered by the loss, I guess that holds true for most of the nation as well, still trying to recover psychologically from the pandemic.
