I really don't see what's so bad about Gill's technique. Yes, he drives on the up a fair bit but I don't think there's much technically wrong with his batting and think he looks decently suited to opening, particularly on the faster pitches.

It's more the fact that he stays so leg side of the ball when he's playing off the back foot that make people cringe a bit, I think. It's not the fact that he drives length balls.

I like his technique a lot and more or less agree with you but he's got those two or three shots that make you think of a bad Herschelle Gibbs dismissal.

His is the worst I can think of for a good batsman. He makes Steven Smith look like Ian Bell. He makes Rory Burns look like David Gower.

Technique is irrelevant to me (other than aesthetically), doesn't mean a player will or won't get runs. Was just saying.

He also doesn't move his feet a whole lot. It's what gives the illusion that he has a lot of time to play the ball.

Overall though yeah there's nothing there you'd say is 'bad'.

Depends how well you execute what you're doing. You can make runs with any technique if you execute the shots well enough. Gill isn't very experienced only 30 FC games. Not a great sample size, hard to know what he would average in FC after 200 games.

Ok you've got me chasing my own tail here lol. I think he's aesthetically the most pleasing batsman I've seen since Laxman and Inzy retired, but that counts for little overall. His technique in terms of effectiveness is not the worst either, but it's the lapses in concentration that let him down usually.

If he's bowling around the wicket to both batsmen there's definitely no reason at all not to have Jamieson on instead.
