I'm not aware of his fitness but wouldn't Hardik be a better option at 7 in these conditions ahead of Jadeja especially with the indifferent weather? Can see him being very handy fourth seamer

Thought when they first went off for light that would be the end of the day, so a bit surprised to see they got a few more overs in. Disappointing to not pick up another wicket, think India will be pretty happy with the day. Sounds like we bowled pretty well in that final session, but it's definitely been a missed opportunity, we really should have done better in the morning. The pitch actually looks pretty flat imo, yeah there's been heaps of swing around but it hasn't seamed much, and the bounce and pace look quite even. If the clouds clear off (lol) you could have one of those games where a half day of clear weather and good batting wins the game. Also, reckon it's going to spin which makes me nervous.

Excellent day of test cricket. Conditions tailor made for our bowlers but India batted well. Other than the first 8-10 overs we were on the mark mostly. Just that this Indian side batting is battle hardened.

Still it can go our way if we can get one of Kohli or rahane in the first half an hour of play. Yes Pant is dangerous but likely going to be hit and miss in these conditions. I'm hoping more miss than hit.

I don't think he can bowl much these days and tbf he could Kohli would have him in the squad he and Shastri love him.

Jadeja would bat in the top 6 of nearly all test teams and yes I fully expect him to flop miserably now!

India’s day, though things could change quckly if NZ chip out a couple in the morning. Bit concerned about those footmarks though. NZ need to fight hard to keep India to 250 to stay in the match.

Whatever it takes!!!
- you think this team, featuring Latham and Williamson and Watling would be out for less than 100 on the first day of a match on a spinning wicket? I don't think so.
- This pitch IS likely to assist the spinners as well as the pace bowlers
- it is not particularly green. Most of the movement has been in the aor and is down to the dukes ball.
- NZ has to bat on this pitch too.

Dunno just seems a weird time to have a whinge
I like how you think I meant NZ when I never said that.

Kohli’s looked elite hasn’t he. Forgotten how good he is technically.
Not just technically. Just remembered someone saying Pujara was better than him a little while back. lol

Also is it true the notion I'm getting that he isn't liked much by the Indian public like Tendulkar? I mean I honestly can't ever remember coming across a Kohli fan boy here when you think you run in to fan boys of far inferior players like Jadeja every day

Kohli hasn't followed the ball with his hands like I expected him to do. Honestly this is an excellent innings. The bowling to him has been relentless.

NZ will probably rue the first hour yesterday but apart from that I can't fault us too much except for a few bowling changes here and there.

Thought he stopped doing that ages ago iirc though I didn't watch him in NZ recently

Yeah that habit reappeared, though it could have been a result of the kookaburra going very late in NZ. He did avoid the mistake in England 2018, but I've started to think English and NZ conditions have never been more different and can't really be lumped in together anymore like people do in ATG threads etc.

He's awesome. Indian cricket owes him a massive debt of gratitude, far more so than Tendulkar, for the discipline he's instilled in the setup. Not too shabby a batsman either.

91 tests for Kohli feels a little...light? Rohit has been in and out yet still has 38 tests, almost half of Kohli's. I don't remember any long injuries or extended droppings for Kohli though.

I also didn't realise Bumrah was 27. That's a little sad for India's greatest quick bowler. His career length and raw stats today are essentially Shane Bond, but despite what should be at least 50 tests in due time I feel like India could already have had so much more from him.

I'm sure this time tomorrow or midweek when he's meme windmilled his way through my team I will be sad boi and much less charitable. Screw you Bumrah.

Hardik can barely bowl 4 overs in t20, nowhere match fit. Even when fit, Jadeja is arguably india's best test bat outside pant and rohit on recent form and is a much better fielder.
