Stuff reporting Ajaz, Darryl Mitchell and Young in line for the test match. Rightly so, looking forward to few more nights of no sleep. Would be nice to win the series.

BJ will play it looks like. Blundell not a starter.

I'm guessing Henry will replace Southee or Jamieson.

Do they really need to give Henry more chances to prove he isn't test class?
Yes (see: Mitchell Santner)

I'd be surprised if they brought him in though, think it'll be Boult as a straight swap for Southee, Wagner, Jaimeson (giving him more time to find his range with the Dukes) and Ajaz as the frontline bowlers.

I didn't get Henry from the article, it's:
Jamieson/Southee (rested) -> Boult
De Grandhomme (niggle/precautionary) -> Mitchell
Santner (injury, bad at test cricket) -> Ajaz

and maybe
Williamson (niggle) -> Young

All of which are good replacement choices imo, I'm interested to see how Mitchell and Ajaz go, and pleased the side doesn't include players I don't want like Santner, Henry and Bracewell.

Edit: the article did mention 'at least one of Jamieson and Southee will be rested' so resting both is where Henry could play - that would be dumb, there's a test series on the line, don't rest two of your best bowlers.

Ajaz a straight swap for Santner. Darryl Mitchell for CDG. Young for Kane. Likely Henry for one of Jamieson or Southee I think. The management loves Santner and Henry.

Was hoping they'll take a punt with Ravindra but kind of knew they won't. They haven't in the past and they won't now. We'll see him in a year or two's time I'd think like we saw young and Blundell after like a year or two being in the squad. It's a bit of a trend that this management has set and it's worked so far. 1-2 years of apprentice and then they seem to go well at the next level.

As long as we're winning all good. If we start dropping games like we did in Aussie then the changes will come thick and fast.

For now the focus is on the next couple of games. I think despite changes we'll be all right vs England. Against India though we want everyone to have found their best form. Finish on a high.

Edit: scratch Henry, Boult for one of Jamieson/Southee.

If KW is rested then I think they should play both Young & Ravindra & try to beef up the batting. Playing Ajaz is useful only if the pitch is brown.
BJ, Taylor don't look like in good form as well so some batting cushion is needed.

You're not suggesting dropping Taylor surely not.

Scratch that... my bad didn't read it right. I think we'll be all right with the bat. Stuff reports are pretty much correct mostly, they'll have inside information. Ajaz will play.

I too think they'll go with Ajaz but as I said if KW doesn't plays then there can be issues in batting.
England have a formidable record at Edgbaston too. Bowling is actually least of NZ's worries atm

if williamson is out i think we'll be needing our engine room. two recruits, the king of the 40 and twilight taylor is a shaky top 4.

if england would like to ban all their bowlers and send down some lower than plunket shield standard dross like james anderson with a kookaburra for tom latham to double ton up against that would be swell thanks.

I'm not sure about that... Barring Devon everyone in the top order is due for a big one. I think one or two will score big this game. As much as Nicholls done over the last six months I'm always in doubt about him. I don't have a reason for it but just doesn't feel like he's going to score much but he does surprise me often.

I'm hoping against hope Kane plays. Can't see him going into the wtc finals with no runs behind him on this tour and to make matters worse his tennis elbow issues. I tend not to believe his record is not flash in England. I think that's just coincidence. If he can get so many runs in NZ he sure can in England.

dwta. no ones really 'due'. the more you succeed or fail in comparable conditions (or batting position or whatever), the more likely you are to continue the same result next attempt. there will be outliers but tom latham is likely to continue his 40 - 70 scoring trend against the top pace bowling line ups and ross taylor is likely to continue being a declining batsman who misses straight balls.

the most likely explanation for williamson in england is a mixture of samplesizelol and the softer (and in lords case slower) decks punishing him for playing late. the chop on in his first innings was literally middled into his own stumps. playing late also gives the duke more time to wobble around, which is probably why root hates batting against cdg so much.

Confirmed now that KW will miss the second test. Not ideal at all going into the finals, just have to hope he occasion brings out the best in him. Does leave the top 4 looking quite vulnerable.

Would rather give CDG more game time, surely no chance Mitchell plays the final. Plus don't really rate him anyway.

I think the top 7 is all right

Latham (Been in reasonable touch, due for a big one)
Devon (What can you say, our best batter right now. Staggering that, he's only played one test and best batter in this line up for this test)
Young (On the back of 2 100s in county cricket. Expect him to do well although the stop start can mess up a batsman. Needs a consistent run. Got out twice in the inter squad game which can be a minor concern)
Taylor (He has to come good at some point in time, hope he does this game)
Nicholls (Been in really good touch this summer, probably the second top scorer of runs in test cricket this season? Had a good outing at Lords)
BJ (Surely a concern but has the grit to fight it out one last time)
Darry Mitchell (Reasonable bat and another in form batter along with Nicholls and Devon)

I'm quietly confident with the line up. Case can be made to play Ravindra who's been in good touch with the bat and ball recently but we're not talking sub continent teams here. We don't go with younger players for a must win game. Besides Young has been waiting in the wings like 3 years now. Older you're the better which is all right for red ball cricket. I just hope we don't go this path for white ball cricket.

I agree with Flem, Latham might feel 'due' but since his introduction to Test cricket, he has made a habit of scoring 30-40s against good opposition, looking like he completely belongs then gets out. No sign in 5-6 years that it's any closer to changing.

Odds:
England - $1.81
Draw - $4.80
New Zealand - $2.95

How? Can't make out these odds at all. Surely BCs are ahead in this game or because Kane isn't playing odds of England winning went up.
