Why are they calling Badosa mini Sharapova? She is fairly tall, isn’t she?
It's only Niall saying it isn't it, they do have very similar mannerisms, there's no doubt. Badosa should say when asked about comparisons "I'm not the next anyone, I'm the next Paula Badosa", which is what Maria (paraphrased coz it would be odd otherwise) said as a teen about comparisons to Kournikova.

Doubt Paula will do though, as she seems nicer, and she's a fan of Sharapova. Do miss that level of bitchiness in the woman's game though, it was so much fun.

exactly why she should do it tbh, she probably knows the story

Heard it through some other grapevines too it's definitely not just Niall
Yeah it is often quoted as other athletes after, but think it was Sharapova who said it first.

I hadn't heard Mini-Sharapova, but yeah I've seen the comparisons, mini does seem odd though 5 11, but I suppose she's not as tall as Maria, but not many women are.

yeah the one i heard was spanish maria tbf

and a mini sharapova doesn't really make sense either, her whole thing was being tall and whack serves

Her statuesque appearance is certainly the main part of the comparison, but perhaps we're over-analyzing a throwaway comment from Niall.

In other news, Iga certainly still looks incredible, but by losing 6 games today she's had her worse performances in the last two French Opens so far, the decline has started.

Fed not doing himself too many favours in the media saying he was only using the French to get time on court as a warm up for Wimbledon and didn't expect to make the second week and might pull out. He has a winnable last 16 match. I don't think he can beat Djoko in the quarters if he gets there, but it seems strange PR.

I hope Swiatek retains her title here and is firing at Wimbledon. I have no recollection at all of her only previous match at Wimbledon.

I like it when people are honest. Obviously everyone would rather have him there than not, except for the guy who would have taken his spot.

Did Saba enter a grand slam as a fav?

Did the draw open up so much for her she played a girl she massacred the other week?

Did she then utterly implode in the 3rd round?

Of course she ****ing did.

Mini Sharapova v Bogdan a top match so far.

Wasn't one of the main favs this time, but to be fair she would have been solid betting fav Yesterday and yes Svitolina is gone early from a slam.

Pretty cool that Pavly' is going on one of her random runs at this slam also !

Badosa did pretty well too against Vondrousova. Pretty comfortable third set after a mid match wobble.

Goes vs Zidansek next, should be gimme, then Serena/Pavs/(Rybakina?).

Not her fault, but this has been a very kind draw to Zidanesk, yeah Cirstea has been on a run, but she isn't that good sadly , so would assume Badosa gets through that match easily enough.

Badosa v Serena would be really interesting indeed.

Nice test for Tsitsipas at the moment against the female Pavly Mr Busta.

Garín (never really a challenger for more than occasional clay mug status tbf) having an absolute stinker against Medvedev (i've been watching cos it was somehow prioritized over Tsitsi-Busta)

Slightly annoyed I did not bother with the Swiatek doubles match, sounds like a belter, Mertens, Hsieh and Mattek Sands the other 3 players involved.

Easy enough for Tsitsipas, Busta game as usual, but just not good enough against the elite players.

Not a massive shock really that she is gone.

You'd be brave to bet money on her not reaching the quarters at Wimbledon, but I don't think she is at the level needed to win a slam.

Looking at previous "failures" she has benefitted from kind draws (superior players imploding early in her side ) and came up short.

She has a chance at Wimbledon, because so few can play on grass, Petra, one that can is injured, same with Barty, and probably Mugz,Osaka won't be there. Swiatek untried on the surface. Feel it maybe her last chance, this and the USOpen though, with so many young uns coming through.

Oh and lets point and giggle at this tweet, over 53k of likes

Serena can still do it on her day, but it’s been years since she could do it every day. Wimbledon is her best hope, but the last couple of finals against Kerber and Halep she was way short.
