There was that Manchester derby a few years ago when City just kept it in the corner for ages, it was glorious.

I just don't think Bournemouth keeping it in the corner made much sense, especially with no away goals rules.

Away goals don't count in play offs do they?

Or is that what you mean
Yep that is what I meant. A 1-0 loss away is a pretty terrible result when you have away goals but without them it is not all that bad, we had the same against Swansea last year and made it through.

I'll be honest and say I'm not off book on the law that pertains to keepers having to stay on the line, but if it's (as one imagines) some part having to be in contact with the whitewash before the kick is taken, then the ref was technically correct, albeit probably a pedantic twot.

And this is definitely a sign of my ongoing senescence, but he looks about twelve too. "Borrowed yer dad's whistle, son?"

Pedantry or not, the ref warned him about it twice and then he went again and immediately did it again anyway, so I don't have a lot of sympathy haha.

The ref is from the league I play in. I had him once before and IIRC he was a bit annoying. Not sure what else you can do when a keeper is that much of an idiot though.

In football though there are certain rules that just don't seem to get applied so it always seems on the nose when one goes against you. I remember us conceding a penalty for holding at a corner once - fine, but do it every time ffs.

I'd love see to lower/non-league refs apply the six second rule for Keepers too, because who doesn't love an indirect free kick in the box.

But as had been said, if you've had multiple warnings then you have only yourself to blame

Apparently the ref warned both keepers before the game and before the shoot-out. So by the last time the keeper encroached he'd been told about it 4 times.

The way officiating works doesn't give the ref much of an option. The linesman's job is to stand on the line and flag if there's encroachment. He can hardly be like "ah sure there was only a little bit of encroachment", if it's clear then he has to flag. Once he's flagged, the ref can hardly overrule him. Once he's given a warning, he has to give a yellow and then another yellow.

I imagine he was furious with the keeper, because there was nothing else he could have done and now he's getting very serious abuse over it.

Yeah, pretty much my feelings.

Laws not being applied consistently is one of the most annoying things in sport.

When a ref finally does call it one can say, "well he broke the law" but it does leave a sour taste when two dozen identical infractions have been ignored previously.

Don't want to befoul the thread with egg chasing talk, but crooked feeds at scrums are like holding at corners in footy x100.

Literally every scrum half does it and once, maybe every two dozen games, a ref will call him on it.

All other grounds have looked good on TV with the way the fans have been placed and created a decent atmosphere. Spurs still looks empty from most angles, and still fake sounding crowd noise.

Yeah exactly. Given the context, if the ref hadn't sent him off he would have literally been deliberately breaking the rules himself, thereby bringing the entire game, and himself, into disrepute.

Free* entry for me at PP tonight

*Though I did pay about £360 for my season ticket and only got 2 games (and 21 online passes) so...

We sold the first 4,000 season tickets for next year in record time because people are trying to guard against being too low in the queue in the event of restricted numbers.

I wouldn't have picked Dias, but I can see the rationale. City's defence is the story of the season.
