I really resent my situation being brought up, because it has actually nothing to do with my anger at the decision made to fast track Devin Conway's application in front of others. Why? because we were unable to even apply to have an application started. None of this affected us because we have never even been given the ability to apply, and likely won't this year.
I sweated my balls off in full four point PPE on the front lines in an emergency department all through lockdown,. I've performed COVID tests on 100s of people . I've performed CPR in full 4 point PPE a few times and trust me that is not ****ing fun. I have at least 5 colleagues in the emergency department who's partners and small children have been locked out of the country for over a year, again most of the unable to even apply for an exemption. I work in the hospital where the first COVID death in NZ happened.
In this context I didn't and still don't think it's unreasonable for me to have suggested that healthy people should wait a few weeks in an Indian hotel rather than have a charter flight to NZ in full lockdown. I don't think that's callous, I don't think that's unfair. And I certainly don't think that's hypocritical.
I know the impact of this pandemic. In some respects I feel lucky to have had full employment over this period. In other respects I feel seriously betrayed by the people in power in INZ.
