Wisden's Greatest ODI Players of each decade

Whatever it takes!!!
Yes also made 2003 semi (and were looking like winning it early on) and of course 1996. Only WC they botched was 1999. SL were a team that really performed on the big stage.
Makes their current downturn all the sadder. They always had people who stood up under pressure and played the big games well, even if they were individually not as good as some other players around the world. Their fielding and fitness were always the best in the SC from about 1995-2015 as well and they had generational talents coming through. And now, ****ing Thirimanne is opening for them. :(

Trash. SL were a very strong ODI side and made nearly every World Cup Final in that time. If you ignore the elephant in the room (chucking) then there's nothing wrong with picking Murali IMO, but McGrath is still objectively better by every metric. Murali's ODI stats are as influenced by how much he played Bangladesh and Zimbabwe as his Tests stats are, which is a lot. Definitely the best spinner of the 90s but not the best bowler.
You mean grand 31 games out of 205?

The lengths to which some on here go to hate on Australians is truly remarkable. Bevan as player of the 90s is a no-brainer, only other challenger is Sachin and it's hard to split them, but I'd go for the guy that won matches out of nowhere for his team rather than the guy that collected personal milestones often at the team's expense.

Nothing wrong with picking Sachin but Bevan would be an equally reasonable choice
bevan was a boring mother****er suck it

Both SL and WI's downward spiral is sad. WI can still come up with a decent side if all their players are available.

SL on the other hand will find it tough to claw their way back. Some serious changes have to be done in their domestic cricket + plenty of SL A tours if they want a near decent side in the next 2-3 years.

Moody is a good guy to have running their cricket, tbh. I think he can bring them back at least to mid table levels.

Only Tendulkar, Lara, de Silva , Anwar, Azhar, Mark / Steve Waugh, Ranatung and Hooper played through the decade. Jayasuriya also played through it, but was yet to become the monster he was to be.

Glad we can put the "Steve Smith is the best batsman in the world" argument to bed as well. Couldn't even lead his side to a World Test Championship final.
More annoyed he didn’t score enough runs in the last series than the test championship tbh

Any one notice that Bevan and Klusener have very similar numbers?

For me the batting icons of that decade are Tendulkar, Jones and Crowe. Extremely traditional but ****ing good players.

It was Azhar, SRt, Bevan and Aravinda took it to the next level that was played in 00s.
