Still don't really rate Thakur. He has skills but don't see him thriving in international cricket for too long
Agree. He'd be an absolute superstar fifth / sixth bowler - like Ben Stokes but he's not good enough to be a frontline pacer in ODIs.

He is yet to reach even top 5 in ICC ODI rankings history. His highest batting ranking is 7 in his entire career which he reached in last game.
Imagine trying to say someone ATG ODI opener when he has never been even in top 5 in his entire career.

These runs on flat decks against C grade attack is meaningless.

Always remember ICC ranking takes care of quality of opposition bowler, batting strike rate and pitch .

Whatever it takes!!!
Sometimes a loss is better than a win and for our long term ODI outlook, I feel this loss was better than a win. Hopefully some tough decisions are taken. But what will end up happening now is that they will replace the two spinners with Washy and Chahar/Chahal and just hope they do better. Which they might well do and help us win the next game, but we need 7 bowling options including Hardik for LO cricket and we also need to be able to post 350+ regularly batting first. As long as those are not taken care of, there is no point in raking up the 100s.

England won this with THREE men! OK, maybe four if you count Malan but the bowlers were limp and impotent, no sharp end whatsoever. And my other concern is that we don't really seem to have a full team of batters - again there was nearly a match losing collapse. We should get a psychologist in to sort this out. Looking forward to the final!

Well he averages 75 in 8 ODIs (3 100s) against the best ODI bowling attack of the modern era (NZ).

We need Shaw as our opener. A top order of Dhawan/Rohit/Kohli simply won't cut out in modern game. Time to drop Dhawan.

I would be more adventurous than that.

don't expect a paradigm change in the way we bat with the current tm and it's philosophy, it's like they have a case of late stage Dhoni-itis but when batting first. A lot of things need to go our way when we defend totals against a lineup that are always willing to go hell for leather and are capable of sustaining it.

IMAGINE calling FTB Bairstow who can't play swing, spin , seam an ODI ATG.

Is Axar Patel a better spinner than Laker, Underwood ?

WC is just under 2 years away, but how potentially destructive could this XI be for India?
Rohit
Pant
Kohli
SKY
KL Rahul
Pandya
Jadeja
Sundar
Bhuvi
Shami/Natarajan
Bumrah

The likes of Gill, Shaw, Iyer as bench strength

Maybe a Tewatia/Krunal could enter the equation too? Ashwin a possibility also

His ODI record is way better than Laker's.
I was talking about tests because some people are literally comparing average across eras without taking into consideration the quality of bowling attack, nature of pitch, change in ODI rules which has literally made ODI cricket a batting shootout contest in last 6 -7 years.

I mean it's the same bloke who thinks Buttler is better than Gilchrist and Dhoni and that Rashid Khan is better than Murali and Saqlain so I'd take that post with a Khewra-load of salt.
