Who is the greatest ODI bowler of all time?

Pap Finn Keighl

International Debutant
Tendulkar
Gilchrist+
Richards
Kohli
De Villiers
Bevan
Klusener
Warne
Wasim
Garner
McGrath

Toss up between Klusener and Kapil but Klusener was the better batsman and not much worse as a bowler. Warne's big game presence and X factor gets him a gig over Saqlain who was perhaps a bit more consistent.

I was very close to picking Ponting over Kohli, who has done nothing to dispel the perceptions of being a bottler, but that average is too high.

Lara doesn't deserve a spot in the first XI in an ODI team, despite being a gun.

Bevan a better finisher than anyone else in a more difficult time to bat.

Garner, McGrath and Wasim are all locks and anyone who leaves them out are kidding themselves. You don't pick a Mustang over a Ferrari.
Klusner better batsman, Kapil better bowler

Saqlain was more lethal and universally effective like an ATG pacer.

Comparing Ponting and Kohli is similar to comparing Dravid and Mark Waugh.

Lara would be a perfect opening partner for Sachin Tendulkar. His opening stats are good enough to get a selection. ( and at Number 3 Lara avgs 46 at 86 strike rate, Ponting who played more in easier era avgd 42.5 at 81 )

Bevan is the best Bevan in history no doubt, But with Dhoni you will get combo of 2nd best Bevan and 2nd best Klusner. ( also Gilchrist can be replaced with a better batsman (Lara).

If you already have two ferraris in Akram and Garner, its better to pick Mustang Hadlee , Range Rover Kapil and S class Saqlain. Something for every occasion.

The gap between Klusener and Kapil as a batsman was far greater than the difference between them as bowlers. Much of Kapil's batting legend comes from a single innings that nobody saw against Zimbabwe.

I loved Lara's batting but Lara+Dhoni is objectively worse than Gilchrist+Bevan, especially considering that Lara opened for such a short period of his career. I want 50(54) from Gilchrist more than 60(72) from Lara when the next batsman in is Vivian ****ing Richards.

tbf did Klusener do much memorable with the bat outside of those effective yet brief unbeaten 30s and 40s in the '99 WC

He scored almost as many runs as Kapil in 50 less innings.

But I take your point.

If we restrict it to world cup finals winners the XI becomes a lot more interesting.

Gilchrist (03)
Tendulkar (11)
Richards (75)
Smith (15)
Waugh (87) (c)
Bevan (99)
Kapil (83)
Wasim (92)
Garner (79)
Murali (96)
McGrath (07)

I am in minority probably, but I think No. Imran and Flintoff are better options as 5th bowler who can bat in an all time great XI.
Imran is not better than Kapil in an ODI ATXI when he will at max face 30 balls.
Kapil had SR of 95 in 80s which is equivalent to current 110-120

There are at least two spinners who are better than Warne in ODI game.

Is there any chance Hadlee to be a better (not greater ) ODI bowler than McGrath?
I reckon Garner was notably better than Hadlee. There wasnt anyone notably better than Mcgrath. You have to be putting Garner in his own league to compare Hadlee favourably to the best guys from other eras. Garner as the GOAT is not at all
implausible, but I'm not sure I would buy into GOAT by some distance.

My XI was one player from each of the WC winning sides. Notably, basically all the ATG bowlers won a world cup final, but the number of ATG batsmen shrinks quite a bit if you can only take 1 from each final. For example you have to pick one from Tendulkar, Kohli and Dhoni.
