Toss up between Klusener and Kapil but Klusener was the better batsman and not much worse as a bowler. Warne's big game presence and X factor gets him a gig over Saqlain who was perhaps a bit more consistent.
I was very close to picking Ponting over Kohli, who has done nothing to dispel the perceptions of being a bottler, but that average is too high.
Lara doesn't deserve a spot in the first XI in an ODI team, despite being a gun.
Bevan a better finisher than anyone else in a more difficult time to bat.
Garner, McGrath and Wasim are all locks and anyone who leaves them out are kidding themselves. You don't pick a Mustang over a Ferrari.
Saqlain was more lethal and universally effective like an ATG pacer.
Comparing Ponting and Kohli is similar to comparing Dravid and Mark Waugh.
Lara would be a perfect opening partner for Sachin Tendulkar. His opening stats are good enough to get a selection. ( and at Number 3 Lara avgs 46 at 86 strike rate, Ponting who played more in easier era avgd 42.5 at 81 )
Bevan is the best Bevan in history no doubt, But with Dhoni you will get combo of 2nd best Bevan and 2nd best Klusner. ( also Gilchrist can be replaced with a better batsman (Lara).
If you already have two ferraris in Akram and Garner, its better to pick Mustang Hadlee , Range Rover Kapil and S class Saqlain. Something for every occasion.
