EDIT
Apparently Woakes, Archer, Bairstow, Curran and Ali can be added to that list.

I'd guess something like:
Sibley, Burns, Crawley, Root, Lawrence, Pope, Foakes, and then it gets tricky unless we want to see Leach batting at 8. Obviously he's our best spinner and Anderson, Broad are our best quicks, probably supported by Stone. But that's a very long tail. Woakes a huge loss.
They won't all be missing though will they? Agree about Woakes though, when Leach becomes your spinner then his batting really important.

No, I didn't know about only the final clashing until you posted that earlier. Which makes picking a side now an impossible task.

Hard to think of much positive to take away from the winter going forward. We already knew Root and Anderson were class. You could replace every one of the batsmen bar Root and we wouldn’t have done any worse.

Maybe 1 thing is the improvement of Leach, surely cemented his place for a while.
I think this is the main reason it's been such a depressing tour in the end. It's not a great surprise that a team relying on so many young/inexperienced Test players as Sibley/Crawley/Pope/Lawrence/Bess gets beaten away in India. Ashwin and Patel have been really good and it's been tough. But it would have been nice if one of two of that group had shone at some stage and none of them really have.

Other than Leach I guess Stone is the other fringe player who's improved his standing, but he only got one game.

Bcos everyone is in bubbles will there be quarantine time for players? Or vaccine certificates required? Any indications from the govt or ECB?

It is obviously too late, but Lawrence has been good in this match, while Foakes has generally been top quality behind the stumps.

Shades of the 13-14 Ashes here as we go from some excellent early inroads in the 1st innings with the ball to a counter attacking pasting and then a collapse.

Too early to say. By the time of the India series in August there’ll either be minimal restrictions in place or another nasty winter ahead depending on government policy.

Even in the abject annals of English sport, this has to go down as one of the weakest efforts on record. Pathetic.

At home Buttler.

Foakes has had rough deal at times (stuck at 8 again here) but he also really does not have to do a great deal for people to really go overboard on him.
ok cool. i don't have an opinion yet. i was surprised to see foakes has the better fc record by far given you guys are often skeptical about his batting. does he bat quite low in county?

Bats 5 for his county but has a flat home deck.

Almost all of Buttler's recent first class record is his Tests.

Nah not really. Quite often played as a specialist bat when he was at Essex and they had Foster. He probably should have had a proper run in the side at some point but he did look suspect against pace in the West Indies.

Feels like he is the reverse Buttler in that his lack of opportunities mean he gets inflated by some where as Buttler has had so many chances that people now downplay all the good stuff he has done recently.

yea true, buttlers statistics are acceptable for a wicketkeeper batsman. they're not in the running for any world elevens but an average of 34 is fine for a #7. he would have copped less heat if he wasn't so ridiculously good in other formats and england didn't insist on batting in him the top six or as a specialist bat at times.

Well they've only got 2 proven test class batsmen (one of whom is a batting allrounder) and both have bowled too many overs in this series and are cooked. Their 3rd best batsman is an average wicketkeeper who went home after the 1st test.
