Shakib obviously would have given bangla a better chance of winning yes but his bowling is being overhyped here a bit. His average in Bangladesh is 31, yes he is economical and tests batsman patience but bonner and mayers were both patient both days and never looked like taking risks anyway.
Shakib may have taken their wickets but from how they played there is just as good a chance he wouldnt
nah it's not about Shakib himself taking wickets. With him holding up one end, the rest of the attack looks more potent. He also gives the side a massive psychological boost with his presence. Without him they all seem lost about how they're going to win.

Wi team with 'regulars' available:

Braithwaite
????
????
Mayers
Bonner
Blackwood (for now)
Da Silva+
Holder*
Rahkeem
Roach
Gabriel
Yep agreed. Personally I would convert Hety to an opener like he was in youth cricket and play Pooran at 3 or 4.

But what they'll probably do is give Campbell another series or choose Mosely, whilst giving Brooks or Bravo the number 3 slot.

He doesn't take clusters of wickets as often anymore, sure - but from what I've watched, in such situations, where there is enough on the board, ie, he does really well in preventing such counter attacks. And his tight bowling often helps the spinner bowling from the other end.

Sure, Mayers was ridiculously good, but I'd say overall I'd very much wager on Shakib preventing 400 from being chased down.

Yeah, perhaps counterattack was the wrong term to use, but ykwim. Mayers especially was supreme, and maybe he'd have pulled it off nonetheless, but surely lack of Shakib clearly affected them. I think Mominul said as much tbh.

And if you'd watched BD defending totals in the recent past, them with Shakib have generally defended far less tbh.

Yep I agree like i said. He would have boosted there chances of winning but can't say they definitely wouldn't of chased it if he was there. Mayers was a genuine atg knock and bonner was class too. I think bonner should have been player of the series

Need i remind people making comments about Shakib being missing, that Wi was also missing their premier fast bowler Roach and their own all rounder in Jason Holder....

Roach not that massive a miss though (and in retrospect, Alzarri added more value with his batting and the result may have been different here without him, although v much a hindsight thing this), but I agree wrt Holder. Especially his batting.

In either case, WI here looking a far more balanced side too right now, legit good bowling (Rakheem was impressive overall) + some quality batting in there tbh. BD is still over reliant on Shakib, after all this years.

Papon needs to put on the whites and captain this team on the field.

Recently, Mushy almost had a fight with one of his own players on the field...where is the teamwork amongst these lot. Tamim and Mushy should have guided Mominul more in the test series since they have a wealth of experience.

Watched the last hour of the game last night and it was as thrilling as they come.

No disrespect to Cornwall but one instance will stick in my mind. With K Brathwaite bowling and Cornwall at the leg slip, first ball went between the keeper and the leg slip. Da Silva quickly realizing it was Cornwall at leg slip ran all the way to the boundary to field the ball. Next ball same ball, same result but this time neither Da Silva or Corwall ran behind to stop the ball. Next ball Brathwaite moved Cornwall out of leg slip and brought some one else into that position. Then bowled a straighter one and the batsman shouldered arms and was out LBW. This will stick in my mind as long as I live. It's very uncommon for the keeper to run behind to field when you have a slip or leg slip.

The catch from Cornwall at slip to win the game was nothing short of outstanding. That was a great catch from the big man, has amazing hands and he has awesome reflexes as his size otherwise would suggest. I'm his fan.

Rakheem gives hope to all club cricketers everywhere, but he's actually very talented.

kemar roach as well. short, slow, not the biggest mover of the ball. youth coaches would tell him to bowl offies but no, he has 200 wickets @ 27 bowling right arm medium fast and still has a few years left to get 250 - 300 wickets.

great series from the windies after all the selection drama. going forward id like to see..

1. brathwaite
2. not sure
3. pooran
4. blackwood
5. bonner
6. mayers
7. da silva
8. holder
9. cornwall
10. roach
11. gabriel

12. chemar holder

time for blackwood to get some responsibility as the windies best specialist batsman. it's a shame chase is bad because with the shaky batting and good but not the best bowling the triple allrounder combination gives serious batting depth to #8 plus 4 pacers and two spinners to eke out every 0.1% from the players available. not to be unfortunately.

@cnerd123 .. seems heads will roll, but perhaps not the ones you wanted?

LMAO what kind of excuse is 'I was in the bio-bubble and couldn't do anything'? Also, Soumya was a decent pick I'd say, just bat him down the order - can be decent with his seamers. Just don't send him to open, he's not remotely as good. Mithun was an awful pick, could've easily been replaced by Mossadek/Mahmudullah.

Just feel bad for Soumya, way too much dicking around with him. Can legit be a useful lower middle order bat/more than handy part timer.

He was lightning when he was young to be fair, and I wouldn't call him slow now.

What I like about Kemar is how he has handled his ego. When he started he was 150kph plus, beating excellent players like Watson, Ponting, Shakib etc for pace. No one would come down the wicket or lunge forward.

He then got a serious injury and has had to model himself into a 78 - 83mph seamer who has a big inswinger and another one that holds it's line. That is a pretty big shift and I wonder how he must feel when batsmen come down the wicket to him, for example.
