*Official* 2nd Test at the MA Chidambaram Stadium, Chennai, 13 - 17 Feb 2021

Why are you choosing to make a fool of yourself trying to defend this point that India are not more skillful in these conditions. India were quite unfortunate in the first test- played significantly fewer shots in error over 2 innings than England played in their first innings alone when they were playing on a Road!

England's first innings was 190 overs. India's 2 innings were 153 overs combined.

And Eng got out on 178 in 3rd innings.
If IND got out for sub 200 score tomorrow, then you have a point otherwise it is all speculation.

This is also a great batting pitch if you are very good player of spin.
The only reason Eng got out cheaply is because Root was dismissed at very low score.
This pitch is no different than WACA of 90s. Players like Sachin, Smith, Lara, Root can score well on most of the wickets.
What?

Kohli got bowled by Moeen by a ball that turned a foot before lunch on day 1!

It’s fkn awful

Mate, I am saying the toss is only as important in India as it is elsewhere in the world. No more, no less.
And I am saying I don't think you are right. You certainly haven't provided any evidence other than your own sayso.

No, it just means in general, the pitches favour batting first. Pitches in Eng/SA may favour either batting or bowling first but could be favouring either to a more extreme extent depending on the pitch on the day. SC pitches generally have less variety, that doesnt mean the advantage gained by the toss is more, its just more samey.
This is a fair point and may be true although it's quite hard to prove either way.

I only enclosed rudimentary statistics but I would suggest the decision at the toss is the clearest way to determine whether the toss has an impact on the game.

Anecdotal evidence I would say that in England at least there is plenty of discussion before the toss of nearly every game of whether to bat or bowl first. In India not so.

The game is better imo when there is a difficult choice at the toss because it tends to suggest there is little advantage across the game to batting or bowling first and thus little advantage to whoever wins it.

Eh ? He's counted the number of false shots and argued that India were the better team in the 1st Test because they played fewer false shots.

But that misses the point that England batted for more overs. It's not speculation at all.

How can you be better side after losing by 250 runs ?
Sorry I didn't understand your point. I thought you were talking about toss.

We wouldn't be talking about toss had Root not got out earlier.
Didn't KP score 186 on 2012 tour on similar type of pitch at Mumbai.

Yeah how dare great players get out to good balls. STOP THE MATCH!

Ball turning a foot is same as a bowler getting banana swing or steep bounce.
That Moeen dismissal of Kohli needs to be celebrated and yet being condemned. Lured the batsman into the drive and bowled him through the gate. Classic off spinner's special. It doesn't get any better than that.
Exactly. If only greatest cricketers were given privilege of creating some unreplicable moments, we wouldn't have got the likes of following,

How would that demonstrate that the first innings par total was 175-200 ?
Watch the game

England were done well before Rohit got out

I am Australian and don’t actually care who wins

England didn’t have a prayer once Rohit got a ton

One of the best innings in recent history
