This game is a virtual semifinal for India (lose and they can't make the final).

Virat in World Cup semifinals:

2011: 9
2015: 1
2019: 1

Now he'll probably go and score a genius chanceless 100 in the 2nd innings with the ball turning square.
Not much chance of that happening.. In fact in this pitch anyone scoring a 50-60 in 2nd innings will be achievement.

Pant's a proper player, IMHO.

Yeah, he scores quickly, but he does so with that economy of movement and seemingly that extra fraction of a second that signify class to even the most casual of observers.

The cut he got off the mark with today was dreamy time. Laraesque and there's no higher compliment.

Mediocre keeper tho, but.
One of the most talented players I’ve seen. He often paces his innings well, gets off to a solid start 30 (60) before truly accelerating. He also has a knack for scoring runs in high pressure situations.

His conventional stroke play along the ground (drives, punches, cuts) and even his slog sweeps/paddle sweeps are all class IMO. He usually executes them very safely.

I know it’s one of his high scoring shots but he overdoes the slog down the ground over the spinner’s head. He hits it very cleanly a lot of the time but there’s always a massive risk playing that shot, not just through an edge or missing the ball but also through miscueing it to an off side fielder due to adjusting for the ball too late after already being down the ground and midway through the shot.

He has got out thrice in the 90s attempting that shot in his very short career. He put that side of his game away for the most part in the third session at the Gabba which was very smart. Not saying he shouldn’t play that shot but I think he should pick his spots more sparingly to launch it over the top, especially considering he doesn’t lack scoring options otherwise.
