*Official* 2nd Test at the MA Chidambaram Stadium, Chennai, 13 - 17 Feb 2021

That’s a match defining innings from Sharma isn’t it. So good to get those runs at that tempo probably knowing it’s not easy to hang around on this pitch.

looking tough for us already without another Masterclass from Root

Umpires need to grow a pair and start telling players to get the **** off the field when they’re out.

Once again, Pant has been reckless. He could just have easily been dismissed in single figures. Problem is, if Pant scores runs tomorrow then he'll be backed unconditionally for 5 years. God knows hes been backed long enough.

Any bets on him dropping 10+ catches? Though I'm Indian, it was a pleasure to Foakes keep. I hope Pant drops a few tomorrow, we're winning this game anyway. His poor keeping has to be shown up. I'd go for Saha or even Kl Rahul over him, if we want batting, as KL is easily a better Test batsman

Anil's a great umpire. Just having a bad day. Happens to everyone.
You say it happens to everyone but I don't recall any other instance of a third umpire giving a decision without first looking at what he was asked to make a decision about. Are there any other examples in however many years it is since the system was brought in ?

Agree, I mean its ok if he did not check it at first but when players specifically told him that is what they want checked, he should have. I assume there may have been miscommunication and one of the field umpires perhaps was not as good with his English as he could have been, coz the alternative does sound shockingly incompetent at best and blatantly biased at worst.
bucknor would have given it out and refused a review if rahane opted for one

Pant is about as undroppable as you can get at this point.

I agree about his keeping but there’s a bigger likelihood that they’d play both Saha and Pant than drop Pant and play Saha.

Hardly. It would be ludicrous to call Pant a specialist batsman. As it is, he is just about survinving as a shoddy wicketkeeper batsman because he has license to hit. And hitting is all he can do, that too against spinners - I've never seen him hit pace bowling.

Not ludicrous considering the weight of runs compared to others like Shaw, Agarwal, Vihari.

Shaw is rubbish but Agarwal and Vihari are much more experienced than Pant. They grinded it in Ranji for a long time, they should be given preference over Pant.

Pant averages 55+ in non-test FC games. It's over a sample size of only 20-25 games but Shubhman Gill and plenty of other young talented batsmen have been given shots based on a similar sample of FC cricket.

Similarities between Stone and Dominic Cork:

- physical appearance (including hair)
- wristbands
- run up
- action
- follow through
- appeal/celebration

You can say whatever you want. He will not and cannot be dropped after his recent performances with the bat. That's just a fact of life in Indian cricket. So arguing it is pointless even if you disagree with it.

This game is a virtual semifinal for India (lose and they can't make the final).

Virat in World Cup semifinals:

2011: 9
2015: 1
2019: 1

Now he'll probably go and score a genius chanceless 100 in the 2nd innings with the ball turning square.

Is Sharma's wife/girlfriend famous ? The cameras were on her more than the cricket.
Not really Bollywood actress level famous. A page 3 socialite though.

She is the sister of India's biggest sports agent, Bunty Sajdeh, who has run Kohli's PR extremely successfully since his U-19 days and has PR contracts with half the Indian team. She used to work in her brother's PR firm iirc and met Rohit through work.

I know I bleat on about it, but feel Root could definitely back himself to bowl a few more overs. He's genuinely quite a decent part-timer imo, and could take a few in these conditions
Maybe he has cut it down as his back might flare up the more he bowls.
