Yeah, but just because you knock around with a pack of violent chav thugs as mates doesn’t mean it’s what passes for normalcy in the real world.

Also, a slap on the wrist > a not guilty verdict.
As bad of a post as the decisions from the third umpire today. What charver likes cricket ffs.

Will leave it at that

I think he does still have a 45+ average in the Ranji Trophy, it's dragged down by a poor record for Durham and India A I believe... which if anything helps your point.
He did have one really good knock for Durham if I recall. But Chester Le street in September wasn't going to be great for him

Was definitely good for us with the ball.

Maybe - or shows that he's much stronger at home (like Sehwag was, albeit on a different scale) - we shall see.

Most stuff covered here. Zero extras of any kind in the days play that must be rare.
Third umpires have no excuses for mistakes. You have to question their integrity when they start making them

Day 2 is shaping up to be horror show for England, isn't it. India getting to 400+, by which time the pitch has completely gone and England make about a quarter of that total. Then it's just a question of whether India cba to bat again or just send us back in to complete the kill early on Day 3.

I don't know about integrity, but one definitely has to question their competence.

The stumping was a tight call, out for my quid, but there was barely a gnat's pube in it, so one can grudgingly give them a pass.

The catch was inexcusable though. Surely the first thing any TMO should be told is to look at every angle available and watch the play to completion.

That it didn't matter as far as the test goes is beside the point; Rahane could just as easily have been there at the close with an unbeaten ton.

I wonder what the highest total is with no extras. As someone said earlier, great work by Foakes, but also impressive discipline from the bowlers,

How good an imitation of jadeja does patel do? Genuine question for those who watch him as also to ascertain our chances in this match and the series ahead.

Whatever it takes!!!

Agree, I mean its ok if he did not check it at first but when players specifically told him that is what they want checked, he should have. I assume there may have been miscommunication and one of the field umpires perhaps was not as good with his English as he could have been, coz the alternative does sound shockingly incompetent at best and blatantly biased at worst.

Not sure how 91Jmay thinks this was a good pitch for batsmen and very very flat. Sure the toss was still important and India had an advantage by winning it, but it really didn’t seem like as big an advantage as the last game to me.

Foakes was brilliant imo. Loved his work today. Leach was very good too, barely a handful of bad balls all day.

Pant getting starts all the time is so good for us even if he doesn’t kick on. He’s only failed to get past 25 twice in 8 innings since the Australian tour.

Produced a couple of worldies for his wickets, but didn't offer the control I think he'd been brought in to provide. Root actually bowled tighter when he gave himself a trundle.

Although the "how" may've been different, 2/112 @ 4.31 RPO look quite Bess-like figures.
Albeit on a pitch offering rather more than in India's first innings last time, even on Day 3 of that match. But it's only one day, so we'll see.
