It’s pretty pathetic with spinners operating for about 3/4 of the time

by that I mean cricket is always pathetic with spinners operating 3/4 of the time. Not the over rate
TOTAB taking 3/4 th of the wickets in Sydney 1988, was it terrible cricket as well ?

Been unable to watch today but fascinated by it anyway- good batting pitch or big Turner? Will 400 be a great score?
started a decent batting deck, but has started taking a lot of turn by the end of the day. There are already some prominent footmarks developing.

Will be interesting to see how it plays tomorrow after the heavy roller goes on it. Scoring quick against the new ball could be key.

Pant is fantastic. Very good innings today.

Brilliant day for India. Sharma was superb, ball started to absolutely rag in 3rd session. Feels like a big score already

Of course it was. What a stupid question. If a part time spinner takes 11 in a match it’s inferior cricket. Even a part timer as good as TOTAB (good you finally acknowledge him as such too).

Good days play for the pantster! Come back tommorow for more daily pant updates! Turn to page 3 for alleged IPL talks and page 5 for some spicy Kohli cheating theories!

Pant is lucky Stokes didn’t head butt him before entering a not guilty plea on the basis the little fella asked for it and having an idiot jury fall for it.
How come there was never footage of Warner punching root. If we're bringing this back up?

Alex Hales did the worst thing in that footage and he didn't even get charged.

Seen far worse on nights out involving people I know. With nothing but a slap on a wrists the result

Whatever it takes!!!
he's still aggressive enough though, and the standardized odi good length (if there can be such a thing) is a touch shorter than the test good length* because you don't want to bowl in the slot so guys who follow the ball with their hands (rohit, guptill, roy) get a little more breathing room to play and miss.
All of that is true but I feel the bigger reason for Rohit not performing as well in tests has more to do with the fact that

a. you can get tested outside off with slips etc even after you have got a start
b. the rhythm of the game of restarting your batting every session

A lot of times bowlers do bowl the lengths they do in tests to Rohit in LO cricket too (Chahar in IPL for instance) and he does nick off sometimes but when he does see it through, he is usually set and the field is also back with zero slips and very little length bowling etc which gets his LO game to tick a lot more than his test game does.

What I mean to say is there is a variety of factors why Rohit has less success in tests and that is why we always have to differentiate between formats when comparing players etc.

Rohit knock obviously likely to be the match defining one. England unlikely to get anywhere near, especially without two of their better attacking players of spin (buttler and bairstow).

The luck seemed to have rather reversed from the first test where England seemed to benefit greatly. This time around lots of balls dropping in gaps, poor third umpire decisions, losing the toss etc.

I did find it funny the indian supporters confidently asserting after only an hours play that the toss didn't really matter in this test, unlike the first test.

I can see why the coaches never rest easy when pant bats even if he does think it through contrary to what it looks like. You're always worried he might do something stupid and get out.

I am looking forward to see Root's approach when he comes out to bat, pretty sure he'll find a way to counter the square turn on this pitch. Same with Stokes, came out to bat with a plan in the last test which did work to an extent and can work again.

Excellent day, all told, for India.

Rohit was absolutely awesome and showed why we put up with the lows he can bring. A definite SehWAG innings if ever there was one.

Rahane, once set, is such a different batsman to the one who first walks in. It was an absolute pity that the controversy of that decision happened around him and he played this ridiculous shot. I guess he shoud have been inside the pavilion anyways so it does not matter but the shot was still disappointing.

I usually dont mind players who get out early in their innings as it can happen to the best of them but I hate it when batsmen gift it away after being set and that is what Pujara, Rahane and Ashwin did today IMO. Those were the 3 most disappointing strokes. Gill and Kohli misjudging on 0 is fine and Rohit getting out to a shot that brought him like a 100 runs is fine too.

A word on the umpiring. What happened around the Rahane review was shameful and farcical. I can only assume there was some communication error as the umpire did not check the part the players wanted him to check. Coz otherwise, it really does look like the umpire was in a hurry to give it not out which is idiotic and just so unfair to England. At least common sense prevailed and they gave the review back to England. It does not make up for the poor decision but at least it did not penalize them for appealing correctly, lol.

And I thought the Rohit stumping was a fair enough decision as the umpire could not have been sure no part of the leg was behind the line. As long as the umpiring remains consistent in this application of the benefit of doubt to batsmen in such decisions.

I said at the start that I feel 350 will be par here and it seems to be going that way, although I feel a team can win with a total much lesser than 350 here given how much it is turning.

Yeah, but just because you knock around with a pack of violent chav thugs as mates doesn’t mean it’s what passes for normalcy in the real world.

Also, a slap on the wrist > a not guilty verdict.
