Mehidy finally living up to his youth batting pedigree is good to see. It could have been cool to see him see bat 7 in this game and another bowler selected ahead of Mithun. Then again I'd have probably even selected a non-bowling #11 ahead of Mithun if you convinced me he was a gun short leg, so it's not saying much.

Drawing this game is still a bad result for us. Losing 1-0 at home to a weakened WI side is pathetic

The only way we get the win from here is if we wreck them in the 3rd innings, which will require Mehidy and Taijul to bowl really well. Maybe Soumya to jam a couple out with the new ball.

We're gonna be ****ed batting in the fourth innings, it's deteriorating more than the Chittagong pitch. 15% chance of winning I'd say.

Miraz just needs to leave all these short wide ones from Gabriel. There's too much bounce and he's always been **** playing outside his body. It would be very annoying if he fell for such an obvious trap.

I didn't mind Mushfiq's reverse sweep but that was a daft shot from Liton with a leg slip standing there. Ah well, he played a good dig.

Update: Just realised it was a very alert Blackwood anticipating the shot and scampering over from first slip to leg slip to catch it.

Nayeem goes, a five fa for Rakheem Cornwall. The big man has toiled away with discipline and subtlety. Great to see.

Mithun is such a spud.

Little annoys me more than him being selected in Test cricket. COVID-19 restrictions are a walk in the park compared to another Mithun cap.

He doesn't have a good technique, he doesn't have a good range of strokes, he doesn't look he's "underperforming" relative to his talent, he doesn't have a good record in domestic cricket, he doesn't have a good record in ODIs, he has an absolutely awful record in Tests, he's not young and he doesn't bowl at all.

He really has absolutely nothing going for him. It's not a case here of just thinking the bad outweighs the good -- he really just has no qualities that would put him ahead of 30 or so other domestic batsmen in Bangladesh.

I usually root for Bangladesh to bridge the gap a bit between them and the Test nations just above them, but when they pick this spud they deserve to lose by an innings. Dropping players like Mahmudullah who they know they can get an almost-Test-standard-but-not-quite contribution from consistently might be a brave move they need to take, but Mithun isn't fit to lick his box clean after a vintage "40 and then stupid sweep".

>inb4 he pulls a Mayers second dig now
why do they pick him?

Losing 3-15 is a bit grim. Would have been nice to see a stiffer resistance from the rest of them.

We need to skittle them for a maximum of 150 to have any chance I think.

The Windies bowling was ok, with more loose deliveries than they should be happy with. Cornwall's bowling was better than ok.

296 is a very poor return.

He did have a good season in domestic cricket when he first got an ODI callup but he flopped there. Then he got a recall off what appears to be nothing remarkable.

RE: Mithun's selection.

Gah, let the actual seam bowler use the new ball for ****'s sake. It's ****ing ridiculous.

We're going to ****ing lose 2-0 aren't we

Heads have got to roll. I guess covid is partly to blame, these guys haven't played any red ball cricket in ages. But that's what the coaching staff is supposed to prepare them for.

As predicted, Mehidy gets the second over. It's unbelievable. If you're not going to let the ****ing seamer use the new ball on these pitches, you may as well not pick one.

Edit: It's Nayeem, but he's sending down tripe.

They haven't played much cricket either, if any.

Some people definitely need to be held accountable for this ****, yeah.

I know Bangladesh went through a phase where they picked up some wins at home with their spinners but the continual marginalization of seamers is really going to hold them back from reaching the next level in Tests.

Abu Jayed and Fizz is really an acceptable opening pair. But they aren't going to develop a partnership or take you wickets if they don't bowl!
