*Official* 2nd Test at the MA Chidambaram Stadium, Chennai, 13 - 17 Feb 2021

Whatever it takes!!!
I dont think any wholesale changes were ever required and its good to see that the ones who have failed so far have been Pujara, who has been our best test bat in recent times, and then the two guys who got out for a duck were our best batsmen on a very challenging 5th day track last game.

Kudos to @Teja. for calling it early today that it will be the partnership of the Pav Bhajji bros. :)

EDIT: And the issue about Rohit is a combination of a lot of things. His technique gets tested past 30 or 40 way more in tests than it ever does in LO cricket and he can sometimes be a little lazy with his footwork and shots. He is one of those batsman who can play disciplined cricket for a certain period but likes to then switch to batting "naturally" and that sometimes does not work out in tests where you have a different rhythm with the session breaks etc.

Yep, he times the pants off it but that's not all what technique is about. He sucks at handling any decent outswingers.
yea he's perfect for odis and t20s because openers are expected to go looking for the ball in that format so early snicks are forgiven but in tests the openers job is broader. it's arguably the hardest, most thankless role in cricket. there's a reason so few openers average 50 compared to the ten million middle order batsmen who do.

if you're averaging 40+ as an opener without feasting on teams ranked lower than #6 then you're one of the most valuable players on your side, even if you have some flaws or lean patches.

rohit being a home track bully is still reasonable value for a normal test side (as opposed to an atg side), with the caveat that a certain level of performance is still expected away from home.

His fitness has been the worry right? He was earmarked from about 2018 IIIRC for international honors.
I'll answer this. Always had injury problems (back issues), but when he gets on the field he dominates in county cricket - especially over the last two or three seasons. Has definitely been earmarked for higher honours for a while as you mention, and the selectors seem to have alot of faith in him

Except it is really not what Rohit does in ODIs.
he's still aggressive enough though, and the standardized odi good length (if there can be such a thing) is a touch shorter than the test good length* because you don't want to bowl in the slot so guys who follow the ball with their hands (rohit, guptill, roy) get a little more breathing room to play and miss.

*this is why guys like matt henry can be good at odis and innocuous in tests.

Biggest compliment is that Stone's action reminds me a bit of Dale Steyn. Obviously taller, but has a whippy action and gets through the crease very quickly

All modern day batsmen tend to play the swinging ball away from their body, and Rohit is usually more willing to leave the ball than most (see: Kohli). If that's the worst of his technical sins then he's pretty sound relatively speaking.
