In regards to the future make up of the test team once everyone is available, this has really thrown everything open. It's fantastic! This is how I see it:

Kraigg Braithwaite
Open slot (John Campbell or Shane Mosely)
Open slot (Darren Bravo or Shimron Hetmeyer or Nicholas Pooran)
Open slot (Nkrumah Bonner or Shamarh Brooks)
Kyle Mayers
Jermaine Blackwood
Open slot (Joshua Da Silva or Shane Dowrich)
Jason Holder (c)
Rakheem Cornwall
Kemar Roach
Shannon Gabriel

Reserves:
Seamers = Alzarri Joseph, Chemar Holder, Preston McSween
All rounders = Raymon Reifer, Roston Chase
Spinners = Jamal Warrican, Veerasammy Permaul

Of course, Shayne Mosely or John Campbell could answer that question in the next test, as could another good show from Nkrumah Bonner.

I personally don’t like them playing Gabriel and Roach in the first match of every series. We might need fresh legs in the second game from an experienced seamer.

That's like losing 2 players. Will be interesting to see how they cope as the spinners, other than Mehidy, looked pretty ordinary.

For their own good, they really need to start playing some pacers, or they will be stuck in this situation forever.

west indies have had a few good 4th innings against qaulity spin in the last few years. batted out about 5 sessions against india when chase got a ton and almost chased down a huge total away to pakistan when bravo was going well.
a bit unfair to say bangla would definately have won if shakib didnt get injured, im sure he hasnt even got the lowest average of all of banglas bowlers at home?
also if windies keep picking campbell to just go out and be aggressive and hope he can maybe get 30/40 which is all he seems capable of doing at the moment although he does manage it fairly regularly to tbf to him, wouldnt they be better off giving that job to hetymer and letting him go out and attack as he obviously has a lot more natural talent and a lot higher cieling. he will also go onto make bigger scores if he gets 'in'.
i think pooran will be better at 4.

braithwaite
hetymer
bonner
pooran
mayers
blackwood
da silva
holder
cornwall
roach
gabriel

I actually really like the idea of Hety opening. Outside the box thinking but I would be on board with that.

Hety debuted in FC cricket as an opening batsman
Unfortunately it requires our selectors to show a bit of creativity and innovation. These are the same people that let the likes of Chase and Hope go three years averaging less than 20 without trying anyone else, so I won't hold my breath.

I don't even wanna think about what it's going to feel like losing this series now that Shakib's out.

It never ends ffs

This is West Indies we're talking about as the opposition. Have no fear! Whoever wins the toss and bats and makes over 300 will be in a good position if it is the usual Dhaka pitch IMHO.

Think WI in with a great shout here. Shakib's absence totally makes this hella worse for Bangas. It clearly showed in the fourth innings, no way they were chasing 400 with Shakib bowling tight imo. The rest bowled so much trash in between.

And batting looks fragile too. Insane that someone like Mosaaddek or Mahmudullah is missing from the squad, they have to go for one of the proper batsmen now, and there's hardly any experience there tbh. I'd fancy WI wrapping this up.

BD are still good enough to win this. I've seen most of these players win Test matches already. Taijul, Mehidy, Tamim, Mushy, The Fizz. There is enough quality and experience there to pull off a win here.

I just question the mental state of the side. The leadership. Their unity. The commitment. Really are a unit performing below the sum of their parts.

When they have Shakib in the XI, they all seem to galvanize around him. He's just so reliable, it's almost like they never play with the pressure of needing to perform every game. Wonder how much Mominul consults him on the field as well.

A big daddy hundred could do it for BD (which should come from Mushfiq/Tamim). But ATM I just don't see it with this side tbh. And the spin bowling looks really meh without Shakib. Not for the lack of talent or anything - because a lot of them have taken 5/6fas for sure, but tbh I feel they'd be mentally shot by this + as you rightly pointed out, I bet he has a key role to play in soaking up the pressure/tactics.

Really could've used someone like Mahmudullah here, why have they given up on him? It's not like there's an embarrassment of batting riches rn?

Mahmadullah's recent test form was bad. He was averaging 30 odd over a substantial period of time. Plus he's getting older and is a very good limited overs player now. So I think the right decision was made to move on from him and let him focus on white ball cricket. He's also building a decent little Franchise cricket career now, so I think he'd want to do this for future security as well.

Moses really should be in consideration, but to play him they'll have to drop one of Mominul/Mushy/Shakib as they've taken up 4/5/6 in the lineup. That or move one of them up to 3. Liton as keeper at 7 is perfect, and he's done a job.

Post his ton in NZ, I thought he only had a few games? I barely remember them actually. But fair, he's getting older and is slotted in as a lower middle order bat/finisher and all that - esp considering his age.

But there's no explanation for Mossaddek's exclusion though, was an exciting prospect for them and hasn't done too shabbily till now either. Not making an 11 is a different thing, but he's not even in the squad though? And now all of a sudden looks like Mithun is gonna replace Shakib in the middle order. Damn, that's one weak ass middle order for sure. Might as well give Yasir Ali a go

Youngsters hinting at Windies culture change – Simmons

Interesting, I would love to know who he is referring to when he calls out players for not having the right attitude and work ethic compared to the new recruits. I have a hunch that it is Roston Chase, who has failed for over 3 years and been getting out in the same way every time, stuck on the crease. He also is incredibly lazy when fielding. Might be wrong though.
