Do think it's a ridiculously underrated league - people say farmers league only PSG are good and then suddenly Lyon are good because they beat Man City when they couldn't even qualify for Europe despite the 18 other teams supposedly being dreadful but hope we do not see a fire sale. However, it's hard to see how French sides stay afloat when they ended last season early in the knowledge a more lucrative TV contract started this year only for it to not be fulfilled almost instantly. You would presume PSG would be relatively okay despite this situation and Nice could maybe do well taken over by Ineos maybe they could mop up some French talent who want to stay in France at reduced prices. If you are Lyon too maybe you can get good fees for Aouar who may attract interest from multiple clubs, Caqueret sounds like a really promising young midfielder too from what I've heard so they could probably at least get something closer to market value for their players if they are only selling a couple of really high in demand players, especially with their reputation as being hard negotiators.
If anything it's over-rated. I've no idea where the idea France is a 'big 5' league comes from when French teams have a worse European record than clubs from the Netherlands, Portugal and Scotland, to name 3.

Also how the **** do you look at VAR for that Man Utd penalty and come to the conclusion it's a penalty.

I get your point somewhat although do think you would never get a Lyon finishing 7th in any of those leagues last season even in a shortened season and no Scottish side has ever really looked like getting that deep into the UCL in recent history from what I recall which is definetly relevant given many who lament Ligue 1 also lament Serie A which is ludicrous if basing it on history (ludicrous even now I think). Also do not think you would get as many players from mid table Dutch or Scottish sides attracting interest. Do agree Ligue 1 is a level below other 4 leagues but then I'm not sure how many people rate Ligue 1, I rarely hear people say Ligue 1 is a good league I often hear them say it's a rubbish league, farmers league, only 1 good team etc.

Credit to van de Beek , played 45 minutes in a match where his team won 9-0 and where the opposition were reduced to nine men and somehow yet again managed to look bang average.

Its all well and good sulking about not getting enough chances but ffs how softer of a platform did he need last night?

Shaw on the other hand has turned into a beast this season, once amusingly bad when he attacked he has actually tightened that area of his game up while defensively excellent. He's probably due an injury. :euro:

People outside France just don't care about it though. It doesn't have the mainstream glamorous/romantic/nostalgic appeal of the French and Spanish leagues.

Wtf was Leno doing at the Wolves equaliser? 10 seconds to go until half time, just kill that time before taking the goal kick.

Entire goal was a shambles from a game management POV. When you have a goal kick with 10 seconds to go, you shouldn't then be in a position where you're conceding a penalty and getting a man sent off.

I look forward to Barney Ronay et al writing articles about how Manchester United have ruined football because they won 9-0.
Ronay at least sprinkles his bullshit narratives with irony. Miguel Delaney is the one who gets me. He seems to demand that you take his total bullshit extremely seriously.

I've not read anything by Ronay for nearly ten years I would guess. Regardless of whatever his substantive message is, I just find his prose and stupid expressions annoying to the point they're basically unreadable.

Was pretty funny though tbf.

Obviously dire when it's your own side, but I generally love it when keepers do mad unexplainable stuff like this.

I was busy watching the whites then Billions last night and forgot about any other footy. Then I saw the 9-0 memes this morning. Fair play to United there...

Think we're at cross purposes, as I agree it's been a while since I've seen a keeper get sent off for a brainfade outside the box.

Jesse Lingard, what a performance.

My dream is anyone over the age of 15 who does a joke about his age is sent to Gitmo.

City have this wrapped up and looks like Brom, Fulham and Sheff Utd are gone, so the only thing of interest is top 4.

So 3 places left to fight for,,,,,Liverpool, Utd and maybe Leicester?

If anyone is into documentaries on ex-footballers I would recommend the current Sky documentary about Justin Fashanu, especially if you're old enough to remember those times.
