Yeah it's mad how many seemingly nondescript loanees we've had who have then excelled
Yeah I think there’s this problem where the player is down there to get match fitness, but the club has no reason to be patient when it’s not their player. The lower leagues are really tough for players that aren’t physically at their sharpest. Also most players have quite situational skills and only really look impressive in teams where they do a lot of what they’re good at.

Haven’t seen Shrewsbury much but Tranmere haven’t really been a great club for loanees this past few years, play quite a direct and solid style. It feels anti-competitive to me that it puts them at a disadvantage because they can’t attract the best young players.

United Twitter absolutely melting down last night taught me that when fans say ‘I wouldn’t mind if we were losing and drawing playing attacking football’ it’s only because they’ve forgotten what losing and drawing playing attacking football feels like.

Well we had Dean Henderson and Ben Godfrey a few years ago and nearly got promoted. They have done alright since.

Disappointing to see but not surprising, I'm stunned how much support I've seen for this and similar proposals. At least reading this it sounds like for now reducing the number of teams from other leagues may be off the table for now but I really don't like the idea of football turning further away from the idea of a meritocracy. Its unfair on someone like an Ajax that domestic broadcasting deals already handicap you, UEFA pay you less money then English clubs even if you go further in the Champions League (PSG, Bayern, R Madrid and A Madrid all got more money in 18/19 for getting to the last 16 then Ajax for reaching the semis) and even that isn't enough for the big clubs.

Aside from issues of fairness not sure this is as interesting as the current competition anyway - Bayern v Liverpool as an example would be a big match this new system allows but if you know you can finish in the top 24 and still have a chance of reaching the knockouts there isn't all that much riding on the game. Reading into the Swiss model being mooted - Bayern presuming they are the first seeds would have half their games v sides in 3rd and 4th seeds.

The playoffs could be interesting but I would be stunned if they don't set that up so those with higher coefficients can't draw each other - in which case apart from more big teams facing each other in games with little riding on them I don't see the benefit of this really at least with completely open draws it would give some of the smaller sides a better chance v a good draw and would make getting a top 8 spot more important as if you are Bayern for example you could easily draw a Barca or Real Madrid if they have a bad season. Are all these games going to happen at the same time if not you get issues of teams potentially knowing they both go through with a draw as they face each other on final day. If they are, it seems very difficult to follow permutations heading into the final round of matches.

And that's all before talking about what this possibly means for Carabao or even FA Cup.

All about the money
Sadly so, disappointing I saw this proposal getting a lot of support a few days back - in fairness, personally I think this proposal is slightly better, the prior one was this but England getting 6 CL spots and I think a few of the spots would be invite-only, I mean the use of coefficients is aimed to get to the same destination in terms of teams in the competition but at least it gives clubs the opportunity to break the monopoly the elite clubs are trying to have on elite football.

We're playing Accrington at 5:30pm and I assumed that it was going to be off, but so far no word. I can't believe it's above freezing in Lancashire.

It's below freezing in Merseyside, and we are usually a degree or two warmer than our neighbours to the east

If only we had got Cotterill and Wilbrahim a month earlier, we'd be looking at playoffs then. 7 wins 3 draws and 2 defeats since we appointed them. Not a bad run considering the manager is still in hospital too.

Beat 5 of the top 7 in those games too also lost away at Sunderland who we beat tonight and drew with 6th.
