4th Test at the Gabba, Brisbane, 15 - 19 Jan 2021

Yeah this. I mean an attack of

Siraj, Saini, Thakur, Natarajan and Sundar
vs
Starc, Haze, Cummins and Lyon.

10 years down the line people will be perplexed as to how this happened just as much as we are now. It's not like there was a stark difference in the batting abilities of both teams.
And there was no freak collapse from Australia or double century (or even regular century) from India. A truly special team effort.

Sundar should've finished the chase with Pant, such a brain-dead shot with only 10 to get
All about following the instincts, I guess. For example, taking on that bouncer. I don't mind it. I just think that some batsman play the reverse sweep with very low risk and others with extremely high risk and it is good to know which one you are!

Every one kept trying and they won. Australia also kept trying. Cummims, Hazelwood were so good. Great series.

Me too. That six changed the momentum because following that was the edge over the slips and then the Lyon over with the "doosra".
Lots of fluke 4s behind the wicket and 4byes, but won't take any credit away here, the deserving side won.

Ponting's a great commentator but shows his weakness when talking about Pujara whose approach to batting is at the opposite of what Ponting's was. And he doesnt seem to realise that approach has merits. And has worked. Twice in two tours to Australia now.
This.
Unbelievable to win back to back series in Australia. Who would have thought India would still keep hold of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy after two tours down-under

Ever since Border-Gavaskar Trophy was initiated in year 1996-
India has won 22 Tests, while Australia has won 19 Tests.

In terms of series, India has won 8 series (9 if you count the one-off match in 1996) while
Australia has won 5 series

(and 1 series ended in a draw (03/04))

To me that fluke six off Sundar changed the game from a possible draw to a possible win.

It shows how much of a mental game cricket is, probably Washington Sundar had no anxiety and tried to take on Cummins as if it's a domestic t20 league.

It could have ended in the wrong side but luck was on his side today.
Whats fluke about that six? That was a bloody well hit six

Whatever it takes!!!
This is just the greatest day as an Indian cricket fan. I have been posting this every test since Melbourne but I am just so proud of this team. This ****ing team of Gods among men.

I guess gloating comes off as bad form but if I can't gloat now, I dunno when anyone ever can, so here goes. Having been an advocate for the longest time of guys like Shardul, Siraj in red ball cricket and Sundar as a player of talent, and Saini (more in white ball) and Pant since 2017, this series just makes me so so happy.

And for all the guys who jumped on the bandwagon later, remember my posts before the series, and after the 36 all out. That is all.

Now, time to respond to some posts.......... :)

Becoming one sided now. India should consider organising India vs India A vs India B "tests"

As a proud Pakistani fan, nothing brings me more joy than an Indian defeat. But even I took some joy today at watching India win. To overcome Australia in Australia, with all the injuries and setbacks and the disaster 36 all out, this has been inspiring to watch. Even a draw today would have triumphed the 2018 series win imo. Awesome to see.

Congrats to all the Indian fans here.

The lofty dreams of Indian fans from earlier eras

☹

Pant is on. Ugh......no stop it!!!!!!!

have a dip at this India, go for the famous series win, may as well go down swinging

Good call, mate. ? I am glad they did. I would have been happy with the draw too.

Lyon has definitely looked much better today. Getting a much better trajectory with a bit of drift out and hitting the inside half of the bat more often.

He just does not have the ability to get good batsmen out on decent wickets if they are not trying to hit him out of the attack. His go to skill is to bowl the overspin and hope it bounces for the close in guys but once that is neutralized, he struggles. Mighty fine bowler still and has shown he can learn and improve, but if there is a better spinner for day 5 tracks in Australia, CA should try to at least blood them in by resting Lyon, now and then, against the weaker sides perhaps.

I definitely wasn't writing them off after Adelaide. That was media knee jerk bull****.

I wrote them off after they named their lineup for this Test though.

Everyone gets on the train, eventually, but never forget who was there first. :p

Even Piers Morgan is gloating about India's win on tv.

Clips, plz?

Before this Test he hadn't played a First Class game since he was 18. I was concerned he might go totally down the white ball specialist/T20 mercenary route. What a strange set of circumstances to avoid that, but I'll take it.

I told ya… :p

oh my ****ing god they're giving lyon a signed shirt. holy ****ing ****. oh my god

That is just some classy trolling, isn’t it?

Aussies look dejected, it's just a temporary phase....

We've been there and experienced that when England beat us in 2012 at home

Yeah, I wont recommend wholesale changes just yet.

Burgey would've made almost the exact same post if something happened in Chennai.

TBF, he would have posted the same if something happened in Brisbane too.

Agreed, but there was some bad quality cricket at times.

True, sides being equally bad still makes for great cricket though and I think the number of times we saw good quality cricket was overall higher than the times it was bad quality cricket.

So what you're saying is the quality of the city has an effect.

Yeah, the games and results get better in the better cities. :p

Sundar should've finished the chase with Pant, such a brain-dead shot with only 10 to get

He will learn. ?

What is the reason for the strength of the Indian bench? Is it just that India are blessed with a golden generation of players, or has there been a change in the FC and grassroots level recently? I'm curious to know.

Congrats india. Greatest win in recent times. Beat a full strength Oz team with a team without most of your key players. Oz needs to go bk to the drawing board. The batting was atrocious to say the least and for all the boasting about the bowling attack being the best of the last 20 years or so, it isn't. India posted two 300+ scores in the 4th innings. Credit to India though, well done.

Watching this match, I realised that Aus had painefully lost the plot when Pant came in and had no close in fielders whatsoever.

Come on, this is not a t20 where Aus were defending 120 off 20 overs. Pant had no trouble taking his time to settle and adjust to the pitch.

People have stereotyped Pant as someone who have to hit a six off a spinner every 10th ball he faces from them, didn't think Aus management would fall for it.

It was like old days how Gilchrist would fill fear in opposition. Only this time, Aus were the one fearing Pant.
