The funny thing is that Australia haven’t had much by the way of intent either.

He was being critical of Pujara's 8 of 80 odd essentially. He's been critical of him throughout the series tbh but sounded really heated making that comment about blocking.

Getting back to 'intimidatory bowling', which is a term that is bandied about here by certain members who never progressed beyond playing cricket inside with a foam ball and who also wear cotton candy pyjamas to bed - what about a rating system for tailenders that dictates how many short balls they can be subjected to in an over? It could look something like this:

Once players graduate from a rating of 8, they are subjected to a random bouncer barrage like any recognised batsman would be.

I play 35 over cricket. Don't think I've ever batted for more than 70 balls.

Unfortunately I cannot find the details, but I once opened for fourteen runs over probably twenty-six or seven overs, the majority of which I would have faced. Every bowler had at least one maiden. We lost.

Next match I made nought.

Intent doesn't only mean boundaries and wickets too. Bowling to a plan is intent. Batting with a goal to preserve your wicket and cash in on balls in your scoring areas is intent. Coming up with strategies to counter your opponents is intent.

Aus have been low intent in that sense too. Just seem to be letting the game drift a lot and not learning from their mistakes.

I once made 16* in the better part of 46 overs, having abandoned the chase about five overs in to bat for rain that eventuated at the last moment.

Was the funniest **** when I defended a full toss to short cover for yet another dot and the entire fielding side lost their minds. Far better feeling than actually making runs (not that I know what that feels like).

There's something to be said for winding up a bunch of bogans who would prefer to go off and get pissed by keeping them out in the field for a needless ten or fifteen overs when you need 120 with two wickets in hand and your only (proper) shot is the leg-glance.

Love the leg glance. Easily my best stroke. Favourite was the drive.
