Now that the partnership has crossed the triple century and is now 302, it would be worth noting that 296 of them have been scored since Shaheen overstepped.

McMillan already writing Pakistan's obituary.

Is Hagley Oval really that great of a ground? It just looks like a Bay Oval clone to me (although it was first, so not a clone).

Much better than how Lancaster Park was at any rate. Tons of trees around Hagley, does make it a bit nicer than the industrial area around Bay Oval.

I'm fond of Saxton Oval, wouldn't mind a test there.

I've been there for a few Test's, Hagley Oval is like a boring version of the Basin. Good ground for watching cricket, but nothing special. Heaps of space around it, good for the kids.

Bloody hell, good on Nicholls for making the most of his innings. Both these hundreds he shouldn't have made it past 50, let alone big hundreds! I just worry about him overseas in Australia, England and SA. I don't think his technique cuts it - But he's earnt his stripes.

Great stuff, these two clearly like batting against Pakistan, even if the fielding side have been their own worst enemy.

Get Mitchell to come in next and justify his selection with a CdG-type cameo. Something like 70(50) would do nicely. Such situations are anti-Watling anyway.

Watch for Watling to grind a 40* off 130 you reckon? Poor guy, when he comes out looking to score quickly you can tell it's 100% not his game.. I can't see steady Stead changing the line up. It looks like this Arvo and day 5 are dicey weather wise, we need quick runs and to get them in for a good crack today.

I know it's a bit early but this game is done and dusted unless weather plays havoc. I can't see Pakistan fighting back and making a feast of this. Been an extraordinary summer for Kane and Kyle. The two Ks have been unbelievable.

Seeing Pakistan this test match they have the skills to surprise few test playing nations but the catching has let them down. Their bowling is all right but too much for young Shaheen to do. He can't take all the wickets and needed couple more to stand up. Surprised how Abbas has not been able to knock over few pegs. I thought he'll be the best of the lot.

were there two series during that time frame? i thought we had the final bond test, the test pakistan won then the napier test where watling played some ramps but the rain came?
The Nov 2009 series (summed up in your post) was actually a “home “ series for Pakistan that got “moved” to NZ because Pakistan became a no-go zone when the Sri Lanka team bus was targeted by gunmen earlier in the year. Bizarrely enough the ODI and T20 legs of this tour were played in the UAE just prior to this. UAE as Pakistan’s permanent home became a thing only the following year I think.

The return series (the actual “away” series for Pakistan) happened in Jan 2011, was John Wright’s first game as coach IIRC and a classic kiwi collapse in the 2nd innings of the first test decided the series. Remember it mainly for a Kane-Ross runout and an attack of Wahab/Tanveer/Gul/Abdul Rehman lording it over NZ FFS. Second test was a close one but drawn. Vettori’s final test as captain, and appropriately enough he scored a century AND had zero impact with the ball on day 5.

Some very good batting plans - namely coming down the wicket - have nullified Abbas and he hasn't been able to adjust.

Not sure whether Waqar et al came up with a response plan or not but for whatever reason he hasn't been able to respond to these plans.

It sounds brutal but it's the type of thing that can completely end a test career. He's been figured out, put simply.

Also distinguishable by being pre and post Amir/Asif/Butt bans...reckon all 3 played in those 09/10 tests?

He's lost sharpness after injury. They tried coming forward to him before that and it just didn't work. Not in England from memory, and it certainly didn't work in UAE.
