surely one of the defining features of slavery is the lack of payment?

And it's not like these players were forced on this tour. They're more than welcome to opt out if they felt bubble fatigue after the IPL.

It's mentally exhausting, sure, but this is what they signed up for and what they get paid to do. And in the grand scheme of things, it's really not that bad. Most of us here would swap places with them in a heartbeat.

Okay agreed on that very first sentence. This is a symptom of an already over-bloated scheduling of a non-stop wheel of cricket the BCCI shits out year-in, year-out. So bad it is that even Kohli, Rahane or Ashwin will gladly take a series against minnows off just to have a break. Happens every year.

As for that second part, you're cooked. Any of these guys can leave the bubble if they wish and return home.

What are the other "special" dispensations they are given in Brisbane that other QLDers don't have ?

I do not treat this exemption from inter state travel quarantine as special dispensation. It is a necessity for the tour to proceed on time.

The viewing public that will be at the Gabba have not just been to the hotspot of Sydney, so are free to follow Qld health rules.

The Indian team however will have just been to the Sydney hotspot so have to follow Qld Health exemption rules. Which is stay in your 5 star hotel unless training or playing. Hardly being treated like caged animals in a zoo.

Note: they have to stay in hotel in Sydney in order to get the exemption to cross the closed border of Qld, which is not available to 'normal Australians'

Slaves used to get paid as in food and shelter. Yes it is inadequate , but who are we to put a price on individual freedom and liberty ?

The fact that they don't have to spend 14 days in hard hotel quarantine but instead can play a game of cricket?

Senile is right that the travel exemption is not really a special dispensation given to the Indians as much as it is a logical necessity for CA to conduct this tour in the manner they want to. The players themselves are seemingly happy to stay where they are and to play the rest of the series at the same venue. Letting them cross state borders is more for CA's sake than it is for their's.

Oh and it's not specifc to BCCI either. Other boards have entered into contracts with their TV guys that they have to assure xxx matches every home season, come what may.

BCCI is putting charity to CA over needs of their players.

Sure and as I said I'm sympathetic to this basic argument. What I'm not sympathetic to is bringing the crowds into it. There's no inconsistency there, those crowds aren't allowed to cross the state borders which is the whole difficulty here.

It definitely rained around that time in Melboune, so it seems pretty genuine. And a lot of silly takes here. If the Indians agreed to the Brisbane test only under the grounds that the same biobubble rules they followed in Sydney, Melbourne, Adelaide and Canberra would be followed, and that has now changed (which very much seems to be the case) then they have no obligation to just accept to these new rules and have every right to say they do not agree to these terms. Why they say that and what their reasoning is, is not even the point here.

It is the Queensland Govt s prerogative to put in any new rules as they see fit and it is the BCCI's prerogative to not agree to those rules.

Eh did they plead to play cricket? I am quite sure if they are asked to go back to India that they can't meet this 14 day quarantine they will be happy to.

But CA obviously need $$ and BCCI wants CA s vote at the high table.

much like how giving Indians permission to cross state borders without quarantine was a logistical necessity rather than special dispensation, giving slaves food and shelter wasn't 'payment' as much as it was 'keep the slaves alive'. A dead slave isn't of much use.
