*Official* Pakistan in New Zealand 2020/21

Big fan of Henry. Always have been and always will be. But yeah this is an uninspiring selection. Hopefully he runs in and bowls high 130's to low 140's (which we all know he can, but probably won't based on his bowling post 2017) to provide SOME point of difference because this attack with JAM BOULT TIM MATT is too same-ish. We've basically got 4 new ball bowlers with JAM being the only one who could do something with an oldie cuz bounce.

Kuggs would have been ideal as he seems more suited to the longer format. More than capable with bat as well. Too early for Nathan Smith and Dougy is just as uninspiring as Matt. Nutall would have been an exciting one to see but I don't think he's even close to what he was capable of back in 15-16 giving Jayawardne a tough time.

I think Jamieson has shown himself to be a good enough 3rd seamer who doesn't need the new pill to be effective (though obviously there will be sterner tests abroad) so if he's able to maintain the incredible standards he's set this season there won't be that much respite for Pakistan.

But otherwise, need Southee and especially Boult to put in a little extra to make up for Wagner's absence. It's quite a drop-off in quality from those three. If Henry can chip in with a few wickets and Santner manages to be economical, will be an absolute bonus. Will help if the conditions are more seam and swing friendly than those one at the Mount, though that means Pakistan's bowlers will have their say too.

Ouch, the injections into the foot sound almost as bad as the pain of the fractures. Wagner has certainly etched himself into cricketing folklore.

"On the last day I couldn't walk getting out of bed," he says.

"I sort of fell to the ground quite frustrated and quite angry, and just wanted to get out there and play.

"And as I tried to walk, the pain got worse and worse, and I got the frozen veges out of the fridge and a couple of icebags and tried to ice it a couple of times."

The 34-year-old turned to prayer and painful injections.

"About the 12th injection on the day, I started screaming and squealing a bit and biting on the towel," he says.

"The injections helped for about two hours then you got to try and bite your teeth, grit and go through it."

....

"That's all. I kept walking back to my mark saying to myself, 'Just one wicket, just one wicket.'"

He's an out and out ****ing champion.

I think the greatest thing about Wagner is he performs every single Test how we think we would if we got a shot. He values every single minute he has in that side. It's what every sports fan desires out of every player who represents their team, and very seldom do we get it.

Yeah, I'm actually pretty disappointed that Babar isn't him. He's someone I fully expect to go down as the best batsman of this decade, so would have loved to watch it. Glad for NZ and our chances though.

Hope we go with Henry and Mitchell tomorrow.

Yeah, the forecast suggests the afternoon session is likely to be washed out. If Hagley's drainage is good we should get some play in this evening though.

NZ win the toss and bowl. Slightly browner looking Hagley pitch than usual. Still the right call since it looks like they may only have 4 days to force a result.

Damn imagine if he'd hit the stumps there, what a start that would have been.

Sadly it was a million miles off.

I would've played Shadab Khan here but interesting to see how the debutant goes. QeA has thrown up some fun prospects recently and I hope we see a couple more debuts vs SA next month.
