more to the point the bat and ball were not visibly in contact with each other which, last i checked, was part of the protocol
How can you say that? There's like a frame missing in between where you can't really tell whether it was close to the bat or not.

the noise is already there, but the bat hasn't even caught up to the ball yet, and there's a nice big gap there.

Yep, need the middle frame. The spike not being a proper spike and no Hotspot meant it should probably be not out though imo

The 3rd umpire doing the no ball calls shows it’s limitations there where blokes take the cursed tight quick single. Imagine if you got run out then as you’re walking off the umpire signals a no ball

Yeah no I agree that snicko didn't line up but the gap is because the ball is yet to pass the bat. The next frame showed it after it had passed. Bit hard to tell from this 2d image.

if you guys watch the hotspot replay now, look out for that

not sure if that is where the ball went past the bat tho

thought it was a few inches lower on the bat

Sandeep kothint: "On Fox, Warne an other commentators are saying the spike was from the shoe sliding on the ground. I am an audio researcher and looking at the spike, the attack time of the sound wave indicates its not something that comes from a slow sliding of the foot. "

Confirmed that we're all idiots.

well yeah that's my point though. the noise appears whilst the ball and bat aren't together. under the protocols that is not out, and usually is correctly given as not out.
