Novelty XIs Compendium

State Regular
Tony P's XI of personal favourites, only players I have watched live since 1980.

Mark Richardson
Jamie Cox
Ali Brown
Allan Border, (capt)
V V S Laxman
Adam Gilchrist, ( wk)
Darren Stevens
Dan Vettori
Shane Bond
Waqar Younis
Courtney Walsh.

1 or 2 from left field, but they are favourites, and I did enjoy watching Richardson bat, not sure why.
Would give most teams a good game.
Didn't want the same old players that everyone would pick.

Another team, this one, THE LUCKY TO BE PICKED AS MANY TIMES AS THEY DID XI.
In batting order
Shalders, S.A. 12 Tests, 355@16.13
Miller, N.Z.. 13 Tests, 346@13.84
Kenyon, Eng, 8 Tests, 192@12.80
Athey, Eng, 23 Tests, 919@22.97
Larkins, Eng, 13 Tests, 493@20.54
A.O.Jones, Eng, 12 Tests, 291@13.85. He will captain & keep wicket with this team,( made 2 stumpings in his career.)
Capel, Eng, 15 Tests, 374@15.58, 21 Wkts@50.66
Pringle, Eng, 30 Tests, 695@15.10, 70 Wkts@35.97
Mortimore, Eng, 9 Tests, 243@24.30, 13 Wkts@56.38
Nasim-Ul-Ghani, Pak, 29 Tests, 747@16.60, 52 Wkts@37.67
Alabaster, N.Z., 21 Tests, 272@9.71, 49 Wkts@38.02.

Could have picked Brearley, 39 Tests, 1442@22.88, but he was picked specifically to captain England, so doesn't qualify for this.
Plenty of openers & spinners to choose from who were average, difficult to find fast bowlers and wicket keepers who were given a reasonable opportunity to be very average.
Decided on at least 8 Test matches for this.

It always astounded me that Athey & Pringle played as much as they did, Kenyon's runs included a score of 87.

Rubel Hussain (26 tests - bowling av 80.33) and Mohammed Sami (36 tests - bowling av 52) to take the new ball. Ian Salisbury (15 tests - bowling av 76) as spinner.

Thanks for that, forgot about the Bangers, didn't have any Pakistan reference books handy, forgot Salisbury even played, so do most English fans.
