Three of his 24 scalps for the season were stumpings, so possibly not bowling mediums at all.

He bowls both (offies/meds) as far as I'm aware. I mentioned this possibility last week.

I've never actually seen him bowl either style, but if it was Phillips-esque I'd not be surprised in any way.

Agree with this, and I think that's why he's playing. But it kind of ignores the fact that CdG's position with regards to the balance of the team was kind of in a weird place to begin with once the selectors decided to pick four other quicks.
I mildly disagree with this in the sense I don’t know if the selectors (or Kane rather) see it as a straight swap - to my mind, they see CdG as a 50-50 allrounder whereas with Mitchell it’s probably as a 70-30 batting allrounder. So if CdG is fit he’s trusted to play the 4th seamer’s role and you go in with a spinner (Ajaz if fit, not sure where they stand on Santner ATM). Once Mitchell comes in he’s very much a 5th, hence the need to play your best 4 bowlers and hence the preference to go with 4 frontline quicks.

CdG and Southee if fit will definitely be first choice unless conditions come into it like in the UAE (even there Southee did well in the only test he played). The guy to drop out will be Jaimeson purely because he’s the most recent addition to the queue. Stead has gone on record saying he doesn’t consider Jaimeson’s batting to be at CdG’s level yet.

i don't expect jamieson to be a genuine allrounder and i'd hate for it to hold him back from being a world class or even great bowler.

Richard das Neves (http://snipboard.io/ZlmeFg.jpg) maybe. An older brother figure of Devon's in Gauteng who retired and got into coaching really young.

King Conway just didn't appreciate one of the first things he could've done in his early NZ club games was to get back into some of the bowling that used to feature on junior scorecards. He could've then got these Daryl Mitchell caps.
So true. That's my point, Conway could've had that cap if not for 3 completely irrelevant overs Mitchell bowled.

Yes I think Mitchell is a higher verbal IQ character, he may have some pool hustler qualities. I expect he'll also get double the bowling on a clubby and untrustworthy pitch like Friday's is a chance of being.

Canterbury were always turning to him to buzz around Conway's ears and take the big wicket in Wellington, and he obliged for them twice. Well, 1.5 times, with a significant assist from the umpire.

The NZ v WI overall record is starting to get quite imbalanced in terms of home and away.

30 test in NZ (about to be 31), only 18 in Windies. Not sure why, apart from NZ not being historically an attractive tourist to bring in the crowds.

NZ have only been on tours of the West Indies 6 times.

1972
1985
1996
2002
2012
2014

We were due to tour this year (2020), but no tests, but cancelled due to covid.

Seems one of those bizarre things a bit like the feeling that New Zealand in recent years have rarely toured England - a shame as think it would be a good series and whilst unlikely, deserving of a 5 test series.

How's the weather looking? As wet as expected? If so I very much doubt we'll see Jimbo Cornwall in action.

I am in Wellington and it is currently bucketing down. It is forecast to clear later this morning though, and be much better tomorrow. I suspect prep on the wicket block hasn’t been the easiest, but I think we will get a full 5 days of cricket.

Thanks! Inevitable moisture I guess, I'm sure if we win the toss we'll bowl. I get the impression we'd always do that anyway but oh well ...

The “good” news is that gale force northerlies are forecast to return overnight. You don’t get a better drying wind than that.

If Chemar Holder plays it will reunite the under 19 world cup winning attack from 2016, with Keemo Paul and Hety also in the squad. Good signs that they are progressing, even if performances haven't been as works beating as hoped so far...
