Australian Domestic Season 2020/21

From what I saw Green looked about high 130s last time I saw him, so certainly sharp but 145 may be overcooking things a bit. But more than pace what really stood out to me is his ability to swing the ball away while still hitting the deck and getting extra bounce, just looks like the sort of bowling that can get class batsman out, always thought it would be his main skill longterm up until quite recently

My opinion has probably shifted a touch, initially I really wanted him to be bowling at full capacity before being considered, but the more I think just the ability to bowl a handful of overs as a change bowler is sufficient if he keeps making runs.

As for the SA v TAS game, that was just painful. Sayers was class but he recieved minimal support, KRichardson was good in bursts but Agar was underwhelming, Pope far too inconsistent and the fielding simply lacking energy. Depressing but I can't really see any solution. Franky Worrall might be of assistance but he is still a couple of weeks off, Mennie still in England for the indefinite future, grade stocks thin as ever. May be a touch of a risk but I would seriously consider looking to get Tim Oakley into the setup, got wheels for days
145 in that article is garbage.

I've been at the nets and seen a gun on him and he was bowling around 137kph as a 17 year old. Like I said, once he's mid 20's, add 5kph, so he's probably a low 140kph bowler at test level. But he's years away from that.

Still of the opinion that it's better in the long term to wait until he's bowling fully to make him a fixture in the national team, but giving him a game in a potential dead rubber 4th test vs India as a batsman to get him used to the setup could be a good idea, also means he's eligible for county stuff, which will only help his development.
Why do we have to wait for his bowling? There's a middle order position up for grabs and he finished 4th in the SS runs tally last year and is currently top of it this year. He is averaging 54 in FC cricket with the bat.

If he never bowled or was just a part timer, we wouldn't even be questioning it.

It's going to be good for once introducing an actual middle order batsman into the middle order, without having to frankenstein a top order batsmen into #5 or #6.

He seems like an ideal test #6, much like Stokes when he first started concentrating on his batting.

Fairly good point, probably being overly hesitant after what happend with Renshaw.

Be terrific at five or six. His technique looks good enough. Whether he transforms that to the highest level, who knows? But it would be gun to have a new Keith Miller in the side asap. even if he only bowled half a dozen a day, it's an option. I know Wade will likely get first crack, but would prefer Green or KPat just on batting.

Warner
Burns
Marnus
TPC
Green/ KPat
Head
Paine
Cummins (3)
Starc (1)
Lyon (4)
Haze (2)

That side looks about as good as we are likely to put on the park atm, unless another opener steps up to the point where Burns gets the arse. Added benefit of of not a Victorian in sight, and if Patto came in as one of the bowlers, he'd be the only one. Aus always does best with no more than one Victorian in the side.

I'd bat Head at 5 but otherwise that's the XI I'd go with. Wade was always more of a limited over batsman to me and his spot is most vulnerable.

Think people are too quick to drop Wade. I'd go in the current XI with Green heavy breathing on Head and Wade and Mad dog on Burns.

The Vic's haven't played yet either.

Let's see how Pucovski starts the season as well.

If he starts the SS season well, the cat is really amongst the pigeons with regards to Head and Wade.

Afghanisatan in WA is a pretty ideal way of debuting Green and getting him comfortable in the side.

Anyway regardless of how best to introduce Green to the international setup, am looking forward to seeing him in action this morning

Watching him on the live stream, his technique actually looks quite a bit like Shane Watsons.

The crouched style, short back lift, the way he defends to the on side.

Minus the hideous way Watto planted that front pad and got tangled up.

He looks like he has a very good temperament as well, very happy to bat time.

Sean Abbott working straight out of the Neil Wagner play book. if you can't get someone out, just bowl **** half-trackers until they hit a catch.
Thinking the opposite actually.

He's faced 400+ balls, he's happy waiting for a bad ball with his partner going ballistic.

Showing good temperament.
It's insane tbqh. He's only 21. I could live until I'm 1000 and not have that kind of patience or innings-building capacity (in an alternate universe where I was anywhere near as talented as him)

When you look at Labuschagne and Smith, you would argue temperament and patience is just about the most important quality in an elite batsman. Even more so than their technique, because if you have the right shot selection and patience, you aren't playing at dangerous balls and exposing your technique.

If Green possess the same sort of patience and hunger for time in the middle, then he is the real deal.

Just tuned into the stream. Sabba making it look like a 250 deck, not a 500+ deck. Delicious over.

Out on 197, not a happy camper, looked like he may have smashed that.

Even height looked an issue, hit him on the back thigh pad for a guy that is 6"7.
