Maybe I'm wildly extrapolating on the basis of a few cases, but longevity of greats seems to be extending across sports. You have the Big Three + Venus/Serena in tennis, and then Ronaldo and Messi in football (Ronaldo particularly, the guy just seems to get better and better with age).
It's properly insane that Ronaldo is still as good as he is at 35, but the part in brackets is completely wrong. He's not even close to his peak.

Messi is 33. I don't think he's aged any better or worse than we'd expect based on how good he used to be.

Generally speaking I'd say footballers burn out younger than they used to. Especially in England. 30+ year old bodies aren't generally built to withstand the number and intensity of games. The exceptions tend to be guys like Jamie Vardy, who didn't play at that level from a young age.

I've been watching the Spurs documentary and I'm amazed by how young the Pochettino team still is. Kane is 27, Eriksen 28, Son 28, Lamela 28, Alli 24, Dier 26. Wanyama is ****ing 29. Traditionally they'd be considered before or at their peak but every single one of them looks waaay over the hill.

from the bits I've seen it appears that 2020 Mourinho makes everyone around him ten years older in about three days

It’s noticeable in many sports. Most of the heavyweight boxing contenders are mid to late 30’s and still improving. 30 used to be a cut off point for decline, but not anymore. I don’t quite agree that Ronaldo is getting better or even still as good as 10 years ago, but he’s maintaining high standards for longer.

Haha, Mourinho comes across well in it imo. That's partly because it's cut as pro-Spurs propaganda and the absolutely turgid football and inexplicable selection decisions are all swept under the rug.

But then the impression you get from his media appearances alone isn't accurate either. It's interesting to see what he's good at.

It's still early-stage Mourinho though. The season 2/3 meltdown will be great viewing.

They did City a few seasons ago, was pretty good. Showed Pep's insanity quite well.

I watched about 5 mins of the first episode of the Tottenham series and passed, Mourinho is unwatchable for me.

EDIT: Not the first episode I don't think, I guess the first episode has Poch in it? I dunno what number it was.

I think sports stars are far more aware and look after themselves much more nowadays. You only have to look back to Euro 96 and see the dentists chair episode which was still far more regular than not back then and then see the way diet in general is more widely known about and it isn't difficult to see why stars are staying at the top for longer than before. The days of getting smashed then performing at a high level a day or two later are long gone.

So PSG are offering us Draxler for Guendouzi now. Is the Drax that damaged as a player at 26? Was considered a blue chip prospect back in the day.

I'd be wary of having him tbh. He's done nothing so far in his career to suggest he's anything more than a B+ player, or likely to develop into anything more than that, and lord knows Arsenal have had enough of those over the years.

Any use this?

From what I read this seems a very sanitised version of Spurs season and not a patch on the Sunderland doc from Netflix.

Yeah it’s alright. There are a lot of things that annoy me about it but it is very watchable. I’m really only watching for the bit where it all falls apart and it’s not got there yet.

The Sunderland one is the best I’ve seen though yeah. The worse the failure the better the documentary.

I don’t use Twitter or play Fifa 21. But Lukaku trending because he’s whining about his rating on it seems a bit odd.
Tons of **** on twitter about it, other players too, would suggest they get a life, but realize the hypocrisy in that.
