I want to talk about who is the better batsman.
One is a genuine bowling allrounder who later became a slogging hack, while the other has consistently been a no.9 with big shots and huge potential but not really made any runs

It's like Botham v Kapil but ****

We have to consider the possibility that the bandana gives him strength, and not allow him into a barbers' for the rest of the summer.

Well one is ranked 4th in the world and one is ranked 10th in the world. They are very similar players and it is a fair comparison.
You’re backing up your point using the ICC test rankings... OK well in that case Ben Stokes is a better batsmen than Kane Williamson because Stokes is ranked 3rd for test batsmen and Williamson is ranked 5th.

im in the broad camp because he runs through teams whereas southee is the 4fer king, but dare i lock it in before we check the deciding numbers?

where's the kookaburra stats?

in all seriousness though bringing nz into this tour thread feels a bit like the 2015 power wanking over the glass quartet from benchy and his little clones.

Broad is like the KP of bowling. Bowler of ATG spells than an ATG bowler.
Which, personally, I think is more valuable in a bowler than a batsman, because you can win a Test match in a session with an ATG spell more reliably and more often than you can with an ATG innings.

R.e Dowrich and the shortball, as a youngster he used to hook and pull a lot, score runs but also get out. He's had the pull shot coached out of him and looks like he doesn't know what to do. This morning he looked like being positive is the better option for him

So: quick runs or trust the weather and play test cricket?
Be interesting to see how the openers go.

Assuming they don't just do the Stokes thing again. I mean he could do that David Warner 3rd innings thing so well, maybe they should do it more often.

it depends what the flipside of the bowler is.

gabriel's career has been a bit of both extremes (and fidel edwards before him). when they're on it's fantastic and you can run through an oppo, but when they're bad they tend to melt down completely and be match losers.

bad broad just tends to be innocuous though which is...not fine, but fine.

I don?t know who looks more stupid, WI for the way they played Broad or England for leaving him out of the first test. Both displaying brains the size of a walnut.

I think we've seen more value for shots on this pitch than we did in the second test so I think batting with a normal level of care, even at Sibley speed, should still see us around 340+ ahead by the end of the day if we have wickets in hand. That'd be about enough to defend on the last day in the event of a day 4 washout.

Is it meant to rain? Just heard the comms say England would look to be bowling again by tonight. Why?
