I think Broad is actually a better bowler than his record though. He doesn't just bowl good spells, he bowls series-defining spells with incredible regularity. Ashes 2019 is one of the very few occasions of "Broad bowls really well but doesn't win the series for England" that I can recall and that's mostly because they really only had one end to bowl at most of the time.Would stand to reason, given that (although they debuted only a few months apart) Broad has played nearly twice as many matches as Southee has.
Nah it's not. Southee's a very good Test bowler and is on an upswing.Southee is not better than Broad. Absolute madness.
im skeptical of these rankings given southee should have been dropped in 2016 for spraying it around at 120kph every game.Well, sure. But I meant in a sort of 'career peaks' kind of way, off the top of my head.
To illustrate this feeling with an attempt at evidence, I'll offer that Southee has three times been a top ten ranked bowler (going by the ICC player rankings), in 2014-15, 2016 and now. Broad has done it five times, in 2010, 2011-12, 2013, 2015-16 and now.
Makes you wonder why these two weren't bowling the whole time...Oh dear, it looked so good 20 mins ago.
Well bowled though.
Well one is ranked 4th in the world and one is ranked 10th in the world. They are very similar players and it is a fair comparison.Southee is not better than Broad. Absolute madness.
spark hates funMaybe don't drop your 500-wicket-career bowler for someone averaging 34 and has had no record of consistent Test performance at the start of the series hey @ England selectors
I could understand why an aussie who's had to deal with Broad scuppering a decade's worth of efforts to win in England would think this. The truth of the matter though is that overall there's very little separating their records (especially when you consider that Southee debuted as a teenager). I'd prefer Broad's extra yard of pace and bounce against SA and Australia, but would prefer Southee's swing and cutters against the sub-continental sides.lmfao at comparing Southee to Broad
I know some of you kiwis have parochialism dialed up to >9000 but that's a new one
Broad more than a few tiers above the likes of Southee
broads better but remember what you're talking atI could understand why an aussie who's had to deal with Broad scuppering a decade's worth of efforts to win in England would think this. Never said Southee wasn?t a very good bowler, I just said it?s silly to say Southee is better than Broad,Nah it's not. Southee's a very good Test bowler and is on an upswing.
It is quite a distraction in this thread, mind.
I get the theory, but Broad has a much better record against India & Pakistan than he has against Australia & South Africa. His record is dominated by who happens to have been playing when he has one of 'those' spellsI could understand why an aussie who's had to deal with Broad scuppering a decade's worth of efforts to win in England would think this.
