Does anyone who has seen him in the format have opinions on why Pope hasn't got much of a one-day record? This 'shuffle down the track and then bunt it for one' has 29th over of an ODI all over it.

Whatever it takes!!!
hahaha.. the worst thing from an England selector's point of view, seeing Buttler do well now after they may well have pencilled in Foakes for the Pak series.

Expect a boring rain affected draw here.

Although they would say they are justified with sticking with him as he has produced the goods.

Belts a cover drive against the opposition's best bowler with the third delivery of the new ball. Nicks off.

Jos, this is why we can't have nice things.

Considering the likelihood of extended rain interruptions for the next four days, losing any overs to light is a serious ****ing annoyance.

For all the hype behind Cornwall he has been a bit underwhelming. Strikes me as someone who needs one of those slow, undercooked Caribbean pitches from the last fifteen years.

Well done Pope and Buttler, Pope just oozes class and is here to stay but got to say a big well done to Buttler. When you have about 90% of the cricketing public thinking you shouldn't be in the side and you walk out at 122-4 you are under some serious pressure but he has played well and put us on top. All eyes on the weather from here but I'd say the Windies will be waiting a while longer to record a series win in England.

Good from Pope and Buttler. Buttler could do with a hundred to repay back the selectors. Pope looks a very good player with potential to average 50 in tests

Not the case tbh. He's taken wickets on A tours in Sri Lanka and England and at all Caribbean venues, not just T&T and Guyana. He could have bowled better here but wasn't too bad.

England's day but the pitch was excellent for getting and we hung in there so not too unhappy.

I do feel we can't just bowl first in every test, it's too one dimensional. We've got to get batsmen we can trust and learn to bat first. Roach, Gabriel and Holder must be absolutely knackered.

Pope does look like the sort of batsman you need at 5 or 6 though. Competent enough to battle through some tough periods but able to score quickly.

Hoping Cornwall takes some wickets and Pope makes a big score.
Well, I'll take the score from Pope. Hopefully he can press on tomorrow. I didn't get to watch today but had the game on the radio for spells and TMS were gushing over him the whole time. Always nice to have a talented youngster to get excited about.

Monday will be rained off by the looks of it. Chance of rain in the morning session tomorrow, we’ll get away with it if we’re lucky.

Yeah, hard to know what to say after I was spectacularly wrong las week about the weather, but it's pretty hard to forecast weather in Britain, particularly the North-West, couples of days ago it was saying a wash-out for Saturday, now there seems some optimism, maybe Monday will change like-wise, but if I was given a million pounds to bet one result, I'd go draw.

So, couple of things from today, mightily impressed by Pope, he looked proactive from the moment he came out yet very secure. Certain shots he does have a look of Ian Bell, other shots he?s just more aggressive through the ball throwing his hands and everything into it. Was very pleased for Buttler, I was an advocate of Foakes coming back in before the series, but Buttler came out in a pressured situation today, in terms of the series/match situation and the fact he was promoted to six along with the pressure on his position.

We?ve seen the odd innings like this from Buttler, and I?m still not entirely sure I?m comfortable with his approach, but today it worked (to this point) and got us back into this game. I thought with his mini-assault on Cornwall he might up the tempo but he reined it back in admirably in this case. Still think he?s not certain of how he should bat, but today he probably played the situation well.

Speaking of Cornwall, I do find myself tentatively agreeing with earlier negative comments about the size of him. I just don?t see how he can?t let his team down on occasions and not through a lack of ability or just a form thing but solely down to his complete lack of fitness and that is something he can control if he had a desire to do so. I can?t believe they won?t lose runs when he?s batting and running between the wickets, is he really putting as much into his action after 20 overs in a day, etc, could they get more out of him if he was fitter ? Yes, that must be the case, so it comes down to him not being disciplined enough to do so! Unless of course there are certain health reasons for his size. He has to be one hell of a bowler/batsman.

England had this same thing with Samit Patel, more in the ODI format where his fitness didn?t let him down as much as it would in Test cricket. I agreed with the selectors then for not picking him unless he improved his general fitness. Players don?t need a six-pack but surely they must be seen to be getting themselves in the best condition possible for their team at international level!
