The ATG Teams General arguing/discussing thread

Cricket Web: All-Time Legend
I don't think he watched either of them live, Harsh.
a test match between India and Australia in 2004
a test match between India and England in 2008
an ODI between India and West Indies for the 2011 World cup
an ODI between England and SA for the 2011 World cup
a T20i game between India and NZ in 2013
an IPL game between CSK and RR in 2012
Ponting must have been in the 2004 test and Kohli in the other two.

honestbharani

Whatever it takes!!!
Kohli yes, but I remember Ponting did not play any of the tests till the last one in 2004. So he would not have played the Chennai game then.

Still young so not seen many of the brilliant names mentioned in this thread in the flesh. This team based on the below matches I've seen and paritally on overall ability as well as their contributions in the match/es I saw

Afghanistan v Bangladesh - World Cup 2019
Surrey v Hampshire County Championship - 2019
Hampshire v Surrey County Championship - 2018
Middlesex v Essex T20 - 2016
Middlesex v Yorkshire County Championship -2015
Middlesex v Nottinghamshire One Day Cup - 2015
Middlesex v Gloucestershire 40-Over Cup - 2013
West Indies v England - T20I - 2011
England v Sri Lanka - ODI - 2011

Alaistair Cook
Rikki Wessels (Rory Burns and Dawid Malan hard done by to miss out Wessels entertaining brand of cricket makes him memorable
Kumar Sangakkara
Dinesh Chandimal (although James Vince has looked superb whenever I’ve watched him in the flesh – but at the same time no fifty in the 4 innings I saw of him)
Mushfiqur Rahim
Ollie Pope (Ben Stokes probably slots in here but even though I missed much of it hard to leave out Pope after his double hundred)
Shakib Al Hasan
Sam Curran
Morne Morkel
Fidel Edwards (Dale Steyn not at his peak when I saw him but with Sangakkara the best player I’ve seen in the flesh)
Imran Tahir

Saw many World XI, ODI matches in Toronto.

In one World XI match, a young Tendulkar put on a substantial batting partnership with Imran Khan.

At the end of the match, a well-renowned sports interviewer who knew nothing of cricket asked Tendulkar " So, did you learn anything by batting with the great Imran Khan ? "
Being the gracious gentleman, Tendulkar politely answered as best he could while the crowd howled in laughter.

Haha, that is awesome.

Willis very unlucky, flintoff too. Was tempted to omit Broad for Flintoff and slot Russell to eight tbh. Obviously Knott extremely unlucky but imo Russell nearly as good a keeper and a better bat.

A million quicks unlucky here. Middle order in my time a bit skinny - Lloyd and Viv masked it, along with the openers.

All very good sides. Interesting how you think Russell was a better bat than Knott. I can only go by averages but that's hardly conclusive.

A bit of a tail and Snow and Pocock might not withstand statsguru. But Snow was a far better bowler than Anderson or Broad, if he was around today without the drudgery of County Cricket he would be peerless. Pocock couldn’t get in the side with Illingworth as captain and Underwood often the only spinner but he’s still the best amongst a dearth of English off spinners.

Yeah Snow a proper gun. Massively under rated but agree he’s head of the other two. I just didn’t see him play live

Pocock an interesting one. Genuinely know very little about him.

Edit: Botham at six gives you great flexibility as he’s a proper wicket taker with the new ball, rather than a batsman who bowls a bit. Willis also line ball in my side. He’s truly under rated. Was the only genuinely quick england bowler around for a number of years late 70s-early 80s

Yeah it’s genuinely line ball, I just recall Russell making a ton in 89 when everyone else couldn’t bat at all vs a very good Australian attack. Probably swung it his way for mine. Pure glove work woud be Knott by a shade

He is referring to the 80s, TJB. And I am guessing that is why even Chanderpaul gets into his side.
Chanders has the 2nd highest average and 2nd most test runs in this side. He probably should have finished the highest run scorer too. I get the different era and batting position argument I'm just saying his inclusion isn't down to lack of other options.
Almost 12000 runs at 51.5 in a losing team for over half his career is atg level
