I must admit that I just totally don't get the need for urgency. He's definitely going to get at least 3 months as I've said, so whether we decide now or in a month or in 3 months basically doesn't matter. It's not like he's staying banned for longer because we're talking our time with it -- there's no chance of a total immediate unbanning. If anything I actually originally thought letting him sit out the 3 months and then re-evaluating would be the best thing as it'd cool down the emotions surrounding it on both sides, let some water flow under the bridge and let us all make decisions with some clarity and a feel for how long the 3 months actually was, but we've definitely pushed that forward based on the member feedback.

We have a loosely agreed to proposal for a ban reduction, but we have to talk to Shri first. My support for that proposal is 100% conditional on how the conversation with Shri goes. Releasing too many details on that would probably just make him give a canned response (hell even this post will probably skew things a bit), so that's all I can really say until we've actually had the conversation with Shri.

EDIT: Oh, and Noire was Scarlett.

The mods have to walk a very fine line. On the one hand they've got posters who have been here for a decade or more who have spent thousands of hours posting and reading and they don't want to drive those people away. On the other hand they also want to encourage new, quality posters. And finally, to ensure the forum doesn't fall apart they have to enforce the rules. 99% off that is deleting spam, killing junk accounts and handing out infractions for pepper posting stupid stuff. Occasionally one of the long term/ Well liked posters posts stupid stuff and needs to be infracted/banned. If the mods do it they get targeted by the long term folks. If they don't they drive away new, potentially great posters.

I mean the mods being too lenient on long term/ well liked posters is basically why Jono left.

Can we unban watson just to check he's alright? We should open up the forum to vilified members previously cast away who may suffer in isolation during the next few months like the rest of us.

We can all get through this together, but the key is to do it together. No one's ever really gone.
