Can't do much about balls like that. Match has gone away from us in this session.

Have to question the thinking behind sending yadav as nightwatchman with almost 6-7 overs left. Wouldve made a bit of sense if ishant was available and theyd used him, but umesh's defensive technique was never going to be good enough to survive that long.

Jaddu to get a fifty and get India to a competitive total.
Plausible. Was a shame Pant threw it away in 1st innings, if he had batted sensibly with Jadeja then 300+ was possible. Instead he left Jadeja to hit out with #10 and 11 as company. Perhaps they need to change batting order?

I guess NZ have to hope that the conditions turn in their favour tomorrow, or that the ball doesn't swing as much for India.

As has been said above, if India bowl like they did today, with a wee bit of luck, nerves, and injudicious stroke play, 150 could be a pretty hard target.

Whatever it takes!!!
We have been losing clunks of wickets just before session breaks and just after. I really dunno if it is mental or whatever but its been our achiless heel. And the issue with stacking the batting is that no one is really gonna stand out in such conditions which is what we are seeing. Our only hope in these conditions is Kohli and when he is in bad form, that's that for us. It was the same in RSA and England but with Kohli in form. Hence my penchant for playing 5 bowlers and at least letting the fast bowlers be fresh for their spells, which could be our best shot, given the batting seems to be always dire in swinging and seaming conditions.

NZ should eye a pretty comfortable win tomorrow, by 6 or 7 wickets at worst. Should also add, for all the good work done by the stars who have been talked about already, CdG has been the difference between the sides for me. Always in the game, does the unglamorous work, does it well, keeps batsmen and bowlers honest, ensures to get a good lead into a great one, a good position into a great position or at least a very good position. Under rated player at least as far as this series goes. If he had a couple of ducks or a couple of spells where he went for boundaries, I am almost positive the situation would have been vastly different for NZ.

And as much as Southee has been aligned for an inconsistent first half to his career, he's turning into a regular Jimmy Anderson. His average is sitting at 29.15 now... and it keeps dropping. Let's say the guy plays another 40 tests, takes 160 wickets... he ends up with more wickets than Hadlee.

And then probably has Boult go past him.

They may have sucked in Australia, but this is a golden age for NZ cricket. They were pretty rubbish 2008ish, after a number of retirements. But now, not so much.

they should be aiming for this to be the prologue rather than the meat of the story

no one wants to sit through yet another plummet to terrible. we were given a reminder of what that's like to sit through this summer when they arguably did worse than the 2008 side in australia, and definitely worse than the 12 year olds and vettori we sent in 2011.

What's the go with this Jamieson bloke? Real deal or what? Ridiculous start to his test career.
