Smith asked Doull a question about what happens when Wagner comes back, and after Doull answered Cumming gave his 2c as well. Smith replied with "I was having a conversation with Simon, I'm not sure why you had to stick your nose in."

I think he was joking but Cumming was sort of taken aback and didn't say anything at all for another over or two until he was specifically invited to by Smithy, then commented about how excited he'd been for his one shift with Smith today. It was all really weird and awkward.

Also: I think he gloved that tbh. Very understandable decision from the third umpire given the on field call but I do think he gloved it.
Cheers.

Smith and Doull were discussing who Wagner replaces in the side, Cummins said something and Smith said something like 'me and Simon were having a nice chat there don't know why you felt the need to butt in'

Dunno if it was light hearted ribbing or genuine annoyance
It was weird. Smithy can be a cantankerous old prick, and that was certainly no way to make a 'junior' member of the commentary team feel welcome. Not a huge issue but it was pretty average behaviour. I bet Cumming felt awkward as hell.

Reckon it brushed the glove but think you can't really give that out.
I reckon it did too but no way you're overruling the original decision. Good decision in the end - think it glanced off the padding of the glove (on the last shot they showed, it definitely seemed to) but no Hot Spot on it and too many angles that showed nothing.

I do find Cumming to be about the best of the commentators in the Sky bunch ... usually has good analysis and is one of the few that has really good knowledge about the domestic game, as well.

Whatever it takes!!!
Sounds unbelievably childish. Smith seems to be getting on a bit these days, doesn't he? I have always loved the passion he brought to the commentary and he has good insights when not cheerleading or abusing the NZ team generally, but seems to be walking on some thin ice with his colleagues a bit these days.

I think it was a joke that just didn't land well. It was a really stupid thing to say but I don't think he actually meant it maliciously. It seemed like he kind of realised he'd ****ed up when he asked Cumming to chime in a couple of overs later too.

I hope he apologises off air, but... doubt.

Yes, I like him too. He's always informative and on point without the "entertaining" embellishments most of his colleagues seem to feel are necessary for TV.

He's generally very good - as a general rule is a professional and captures the big moments very well (ideal for the host broadcaster with highlights etc).

But he can get stupid every now and then, demeaning people who are seen as junior members of the box. Who gives a **** how long you've been there. Cumming knows the game at all levels and brings something that guys like Smithy, Doull etc can't because they don't/can't follow as much domestic cricket.

CdG needs to bowl better to the (rather crazy) field set for him. Can't be getting too straight or too much short of a driveable length.

Unfortunately for Pujara, you can just look horribly horribly dumb leaving one of those badly - like Jos Buttler.

He's done an important job for India to that point.
