nz aren't shy of the #8 batting allrounder meme. that was literally neesham on test debut.

mcconchie has improved with the bat a lot i believe, so it's a bit of an insult to then pick him as the norounder he used to be haha

it will be sodhi or santner. chapmans ton might put him in the running for being the meme too.

Should bat Tom Bruce at 8. Given he can't seem to bat above 5 in the PS he's surely the ideal engine roomer, and he trolls with his offies sometimes.

Alternatively, some recent research suggested to me that Henry Cooper is more of a serious bowler than ND have let on.

Please no Santner for test cricket, he should go back to domestic cricket bowl heaps in first class and then make his way up. Same for Sodhi as well. Either he's lost his stock ball ie leg spinner or reluctant to bowl that. With his fast flattish flippers he's not going to trouble any batsman.

I'd really Ajaz over both of them. He's earned it even though he may be struggling at the moment. Heck I'd even take Ravindra, he's amazingly consistent with line and length. The Indians have respected his bowling and blocked him out. Besides he's bowled 3 over spells so hard to buy a ticket on these dead tracks.

Cooper just took two wickets in the FT last weekend
Yeah it's gonna start happening more regularly I think.

NZ domestic pitches aren't exactly kind to the not-quite-good-enough-to-be-a-real-bowler spinners, but we've seen Nofal and McConchie forge decent figures out of it in recent times despite that.

I think I've only seen him bowl once but he's been a proper bowler at every level leading up to FC cricket, and when he picked up the Huddersfield League Player of the Year award (an article you linked me to I think, lol), his bowling was as big a part of that as his batting.

Kippax to give us pooch footage of Cooper's filthy part-timers IMO.

Watching Ravindra bowl last couple of overs or three on a placid track tells me he's not going to be a part timer. Drift, turn and bounce on this flat track means he's going to be unbelievable on turning tracks. From my experience of coaching, this guy looks bloody good with the ball, using the angles in the crease and consistent changes in pace. Yet to watch his full spell but this is extremely promising. Hope he bowls heaps in Plunkett Shield. He's gone really well in white ball and with a bit of luck hoping he'll run through sides on a spin friendly track.

I'm not all that good at this but picked up some balls from his last spell today and put together a short video. Good competition coming up in a year or so in spin bowling department I feel. The likes of Santner, Ish and the rest have to up their game which is good for our cricket.

have finally caught the 1 hour highlights

-jamieson isn't as slow as we thought. consistently 135kph at his height is fine.
Apparently, the great Joel Garner, who was also 6'8, bowled between 75 to 80 mph or 120 to 130 kph.

Garner, in fact, is not really fast. The top men generate speed through the air of between 90 and 95 miles an hour, if the scientific measurements are to be believed. Garner would be between 75 and 80. Where he is most awkward is in the sharp lift he can achieve from his immense height. The steeper the lift, the more difficult it becomes to counter – hence Garner’s success. In addition, Garner also possesses the ball which complements the bouncer ideally, the yorker.

How about that keeping from Dane Cleaver? Terrific work with the gloves. Hope he gets a chance soon for BCs.

Bennett is rubbish

It’s funny, 10 years ago when his domestic record was crap all the shock jocks on here blasted his selection even though he bowled at 145k plus and had a decent ODI record. Now those same guys are pleading for him to be in this team and he’s now a 130k trundled who couldn’t hit a good line and length if his life depended on it.

NZTailender

I can't believe I ate the whole thing
I feel for Chapman. Comes in as injury/illness cover, bats 8, doesn't get a bowl, and discarded straight away. That 1 run will have not done him any good in anyones eyes.

What are you talking about? I loved Bennett then and I still adore him now.
Yeah, I think most people were pretty positive about giving Bennett a shot back in 2010/11 on the basis that we really didn't have anybody else. Also Bennett really was only ever fast-medium. Barely as quick as Boult, and not able to maintain his pace for nearly as long.
