Cricketer Of The Year
Bangladesh XI

Tamim Iqbal
Imrul Kayes
Soumya Sarkar
Shakib Al Hasan (c) (4)
Mushfiq-ur-Rahman (wk)
Mahmadullah Riyadh (6)
Nasir Hossain
Abdur Razzak (5)
Mazrafe Mortaza (1)
Muztafizur Rahman (3)
Rubel Hossain (2)
Yep, this is about the strongest team I can think of. Might possibly sub Habibul Bashar in for Nasir Hossain, but tbh Nasir is probably better suited for the role of lower order power-hitter.

About Zim. there was this player Travis Friend. Always thought he had loads of potential that just went unfulfilled for whatever reason.
I think he was one of the players involved in the 2005 walkout wasn't he? Could explain why he didn't do much at intl. level after his initial run.

Brian Murphy was another quality player that ended up in the same boat iirc.

I will do the Zimbabwe XI

Neil Johnson (4)
Grant Flower (7)
Brendon Taylor
Andy Flower
Dave Houghton (c)
Sikandar Raza (6)
Tatenda Taibu (wk)

Guy Whitall, Paul Strang, Travis Friend, Henry Olonga and Murray Goodwin are unlucky to miss out.
Need a dose of Elton Chigumbura

We all love Chiggers but unfortunately there's no real space to accommodate him.

David Brain isn't too far wide of the mark either. Could easily see his ODI bowling average dropping had he played during Zimbabwe's peak years.

One player I completely forgot about earlier on is Duncan Fletcher, though I can't see him breaking into this batting lineup tbh.

Not sure that Friend or Murphy were really that good. They looked about what would barely qualify as domestic first-class standard in most countries. Who's to say how they may have developed though

Whilst their stats might not have been outstanding they both managed to have a run in high standard First Class comps overseas after their Zimbabwe days were over, with Friend playing for Derbyshire & Murphy getting a gig with Western Provence.

flintoff i cannot get behind as much as a jet as he was in odis.

as underrated in this form as he is overrated in tests. all his runs came at 5 where there are just so many better batting options.

but **** me he was good with the ball. one of the absolute elite death bowlers. awkward as hell to get away.

There was a year or 2 there where Flintoff batted no. 4 and was just about the best ODI bat in the world

Really good to see Aamer Sohail getting his due recognition as I consider him to be really underrated. Was a total excitement machine every time I saw him, though I'm not really convinced he was good enough of a bowler to send down 10 overs at ATG level. Would throw Boom Boom in to open with Anwar, or if Afridi is better suited down the order, Inzy could be a good opening partner for Anwar. On a greentop I'd favour Shoaib over Sohail (again, Inzy to open) with Saqlain as the sole spinner. On a super dusty pitch Saeed Ajmal must surely come into the side (surprised he didn't make your 2nd XI either). Apart from that I'd consider Sarafraz, or even Kamran Akmal, over Moin for the WK role. Though Moin is a great choice as he's just about Pakistan's finest ever 'keeper.

A few quickies that were a bit stiff not to make the 'A' team are Umar Gul, Azhar Mahmood, Wahab Riaz & Aaqib Javed.

He is batting at 6 here, so its as close to 5 as it can get for him in an ATG XI. And I think there is enough batting after him in case he is out early as well and II really do rate his bowling, like you said. So felt this gave the side the best balance

EDIT: Also wonder if Bumrah can keep this up, if I can get him in at XI it will cover all bases.

Christ, how many times does it have to be shown to you, in detail, that Symonds WAS adequate as a fifth bowler, and did do the job regularly, and offers something in that role?
After facing McGrath, Garner, Akram and Saqlain, facing Symonds? Batsmen will be licking their lips. Doesn't cut it. Sorry. I personally won't even take someone like Klusener because bowling attack of an ATG attack should be relentless not "adequate".

Bumrah is probably a contender for 3rd XI right now. I do think Starc is ahead in pecking order. Not as miserly but great wicket taking ability.

Also, who else thinks that Bumrah will take fewer and fewer wickets going forward while his economy will be fit enough to be comparable to top bowlers of 90s? Batsmen just don't attack him anymore.

Yeah NZ have been quite happy to just play him out

Starc is right up there mainly because of his WC record
