He didn't get dumped for the World Cup, mid way through however they decided to bring Dinesh Karthik back for some weird reason and brought Pant in as well.

I think they want to avoid not having an even vaguely decent emergency sixth bowling option. When it's Kohli you're probably just going to make the proper bowler with 9 overs 0/80 bowl the tenth one regadless, and that's a bit of a problem. The amount of India's best batsmen who just don't bowl at all is actually kind of weird. I noticed Agarwal sent down a couple of overs after NZ A were 100000/4; I wonder what he's like.

Shreyas needs to pick up the scoring rate a bit now. Seems like 320+ or thereabouts would be par here.

Pandey tried to learn how to bowl in order to help him break into this XI. Got banned for chucking in Ranji cricket lol.

If Kedar can go from never bowling to bowling some weird side-arm troll spin, then surely Shreyas/Agarwal/Shaw/etc. could pick up that skill as well.

He probably just couldn't pretend he didn't suck at it any longer. He's bowled in 48 ODIs for 4 wickets @ 167, going at well over a run a ball in doing do. It's arguably the worst bowling record in the history of the format; he has comfortably the worst average for anyone who's bowled in at least 15 games.

When your sixth bowler is that bad you really are just better off letting your main five bowl ten no matter what. I'd like to see them try to make a Jadhav out of one of the other batsmen as you said rather than go down the Kohli route again.

Southee will probably play 200+ ODIs but he is 31 now and he isn't getting any better. Need to move on.
