*Unofficial* New Zealand Black Caps Thread

Few years ago it was quite funny to listen to one of the Aussie lads that was playing for Firebirds. He used to say every session they would hear from the coaching staff about this kid that goes to the nets at 5 a.m. or something ridiculous like that even in winter to train to be able to go to the school and also fit in cricket. The question to the firebirds players then from the staff was how much do you want it? Did they want it as much as this kid wanted? The bloke was tired of listening to that and said in jest he wants to kidnap this kid lol I see these days lots of kids work super hard and it may sound like an exaggeration but every kid wants to be like Ravindra in Wellington. Work super hard and not leave it to chances. Ravindra despite having hardly played any professional cricket yet has inspired a whole heap of kids in town. Even the NZ U19s lads want to emulate his hard work. Purely for this reason I'd love to see him do really well. It'll help our town produce even better cricketers in future. I used to coach heaps in the past but of late find no time. Then the kids used to turn up because their parents have the capacity to pay and now I hear the kids turn up because they think it's possible with hard work.

Oh BTW Newton injured after first game vs NZ A and so was Neesham after the second. Although I'd think Neesham will be back for one day series.

Besides I've heard he has amazing attitude, teetotaler, works super hard, very likable character.
There were some funny instagram stories on Jimmy's instagram of him teaching Rachin how to drive a manual and how to do his washing

In ODIs I want to see some shuffling with the batting lineup.

1. TWM Latham +
2. HM Nicholls
3. KS Williamson*
4. LRPL Taylor
5. MJ Guptill

Or Worker/Rutherford/Ravindra could come in. Williamson could go from pseudo-opener to actual opener; mixing it up a whole heap with this in the NZ winter:

1. KS Williamson*
2. MJ Guptill
3. LRPL Taylor
4. HD Rutherford
5. GD Phillips +
6. R Ravindra
7. JDS Neesham

How often has Guptill batted 5 and Rutherford 4 in List A?

You're never going to see Guptill, Worker or Rutherford batting in the middle order. If you add Young, the only place he can go at is no.5 after Kane and Taylor. Don't mind having Rutherford, Worker and Guptill as openers for One dayers. Rutherford, Latham and Young for longer format. Obviously one of the two will open.

The only spot Young can probably play at now is either as an opener or at no.5

I think the squad all format included more or less till next season will likely be:

Batters: Kane, Rosco, Nicholls, Latham, Guptill, Worker, Rutherford, Young, Conway and Phillips
WK: BJ, Blundell and Seifert
All rounders: Astle, Jimmy, Colin and D Mitchell
Fast bowlers: Boult, Southee, Lockie, Bennett, Jamieson
Spinners: Santner, Ajaz, Ish

That's 25 players in all... that's lots to work from.

Outside chance for the squad likely Ben Sears and Rachin Ravindra. Will look back in a year and see if this would change at all... I don't think so.

Here's the A team for first 'test' in an attempted batting order:

Hamish Rutherford (c)
Rachin Ravindra
Will Young
Glenn Phillips
Mark Chapman
Cole McConchie
Dane Cleaver (wk)
Jacob Duffy
Michael Rae
Ajaz Patel
Edward Nuttall

So much for my input, trying to get a sensible order to assess the strength of the team.

They have instead gone with only 2 seamers and 1 spinner. Plus a dibbly dobbler part timer and an off spinning part timer.
Albeit - at the expense of the out of form Nuttal. So, not disastrously muddled thinking.

And Ravindra.

I don't understand why they wouldn't play 3 seamers. Would Black caps do that in home conditions? Obviously not. I don't understand this 2 pacers, 1 trundler and 2 spin bowlers (or 3 if Ravindra is used). It's almost like we are playing in sub continent conditions. That said we won the one day series playing Astle, Ajaz, Ravindra and McConchie.

tbf if your having to play this guy called Rae (I honestly don’t know who he is) and the corpse of Ed Nuttall the options are obviously pretty bad

Can’t believe our depth has dropped away so quickly. Milne, Wheeler and Bracewell all being made out of tissue paper hasn’t helped at all either.

That is such a bizarre NZ A batting line-up, with two top-order batting all-rounders at 7 and 8. Even more strange that it worked and India A were bowled out cheaply. Some of their tail looked genuinely terrible with the bat.

As Howsie mentioned, with so many other bowlers either injured or in the T20 squad, there was almost noone else.

Almost noone.

Except....

One small or not so small domestic bowler...

Matt 'the New Zealand Philanderer' McEwan.

What an effort from the U19 lads and especially Clarke. Once again a thriller lol. Tired of those. Ashok had a shocker. The A squad and the young guns giving plenty of hope in times of despair.
