We have a possible record to go after here - the slowest 1st innings 100+ ball opening partnership in history.

It's currently Kirsten and McKenzie making 25 off 111 balls (18.3 overs) against Sri Lanka in 2000.

Edit: As I type, that four from Malan may have ruined it

Lovely. Could have had him first ball of the over, but that'll do nicely. Sounds like a fair catch if cricinfo are to be believed.

Outside de Kock against an old ball at 7 you just can't see any runs in this South African lineup. Hamza was struggling but van der Dussen is probably the most limited number 3 batsman going. Elgar's looking decent though. 75% runs scored behind square is always a good sign with him. England have been superb. Stokes aside they haven't bowled any freebies.

I think that England have been good... but they really need to realise how ordinary this SA side that has been selected is. What is truly sad is that there is a far younger and better quality batsmen and bowlers sitting at home and in the change room.
