The ATG Teams General arguing/discussing thread

Whatever it takes!!!
A lot of it probably came from himself. He did that as a job for the team but I guess he never really enjoyed it as much. But its funny how for a while so many of their best players tended to be keepers. Houghton, A Flower, Taibu for a bit, Brendon Taylor now..

The normal awards that everyone else has
He was a serviceable keeper, not woeful. But he was a bit wooden. I think he would have really struggled keeping to great spinners.

Which is why he doesn’t get picked, you’re either going to have Warne or Murali (more teams seem to have Warne) and we’ve actually had Gilly keeping to Warne (and Sanga to Murali).

Apparently, 42% of Kohli's innings in ODIs are 50+ scores. That is just mind boggling. (Taken from reddit)

Kohli is the greatest ODI batsman. Absolutely the best when it comes to chasing. Scoring a century every 5 innings is unimaginable.

2 things.
1. Take this discussion to ODI ATG thread. This is for test only.
2. Unless he does something worthwhile in ODI WC SF/F , this title belongs to Viv Richards.

Yeah my bad. Request the mods to move my post and the responses to the ODI thread. Had forgotten we had a seperate one. Apologies.

Here’s one for Tests though, the top 10 plus other relevant batsmen.

Labuschagne 52.2%
Sutcliffe 46.4%
Tyldesley 45%
Pollock 43.9%
Hobbs 42.2%
Smith/Barrington 42%
Weekes 42%
Anwar 39.6%

Kohli 34.8%
Williamson 38%
Root 37.7%
Tendulkar 35.9%
Sobers 35%
Lara 35.3%
Sangakkara 38.6%
Kallis 36.8%
Richards 37.9%
Hutton 37.7%
Hammond 32.9%
Ponting 36.2%

Yes but as usual, the context is lost. Try a filter with minimum of 50 tests or 100 innings etc.

I mean the only ones there with short careers are Tyldesley, Labuschagne and Pollock/Headley. It does at the least show Bradman, Sutcliffe, Hobbs, Smith, Barrington and Weekes having a fair gap over others when it comes to making a decent (not big) score. Hammond and Kohli, whilst not getting to 50 as often as others, were more likely to go onto 100 and 200 , as one would expect with their high double century ratio.

Afridi
Kapil
Gilchrist+
Tate
Jessop
Jadeja
Hadlee
Johnson
Ashwin

These blokes might not win everytime, but every match would be exciting as hell. Something I noticed looking through these, bowling all rounders tend to be very aggressive batsmen.

You’ll either be 400/6 down after the first day’s play, or 50/6 at some stage after about 8 overs.
Either way you’ll be 6 down during the first day.

Why would you have Afridi though. Much rather have a proper top-order Test match batsman who was also attacking and exciting to watch, like Lara or Ponting. Unless you want everyone other than the wicketkeeper to be able to bowl. Could still do better than Afridi though.
